100+ propane tanks missing (not the normal kind, the larger ones with liquified propane)
http://www.theksbwchannel.com/news/3901088/detail.html

About 100 propane gas cylinders have been stolen since July, and so far, none of them has been recovered, the television station reported.

The missing tanks could pose a serious threat because the propane in just one of the cylinders can take down a small building.
The missing tanks are not the small cylinders people use for their barbecue grills, or the kind that would be stolen for meth labs. These are larger cylinders that contain liquid propane to power forklifts or farm machinery and for other commercial purposes.

What is of major concern is that none of the missing tanks have been found -- even empty.

take a look at the picture in the article, a single tank can engulf a small building

Wow.

Even worse, this place will sell you as much flammable liquid as you can carry.

I herby propose the Assault Gasoline Ban, which would seek to regulate the distribution of gasoline to only approved individuals.

Hehe.

1 gallon of gas = 12 sticks of dynamite detonated properly.

Id think any terorrist worth his salt could do it.

Oooooh, propane is more than just lp gas now? Why do ya think it says lp gas on the bottles? Even the small ones.

Seriously, a pack of hotel matches could engulf a small bulding as well. The point is, there is really no way to stop 100% of all possible terrorists attacks. If someone is determined enough and willing to accept the consequences, they can accomplish just about anything, no matter how devastating and brutal. Bush has the right sentiment - that we have to stop terrorism at it's roots, as there is no way to try and stomp on all the branches and leaves. Whether or not his implementation of this philosophy is the best is an issue that is validly open for debate.

I don't have any better answers. We certainly can't put everything that is potentially dangerous under lock and key. We don't want a police state. We don't want to surround the nation with impenetrable razor wire. We don't want to ruin the livelihoods of our citizens in a vain attempt to keep them safe. We certainly don't want to restrict all our freedoms and rights in the name of security. I wish I knew what the correct answer was. Actually, I wish our leaders knew what the correct answer was.

its probably just some guy with a LP car who lost his job. heat is another one as mentioned in the article(especially in colorado) caterers use these things too. with 20 bucks worth of hose and adaptors you can use LP for most anything

We need to post the National Guard around the stacks of fertilizer @ Home Depot & the diesel fuel pumps too:evil:

Perhaps they'll guard my wife's diesel VW Golf.

Let's see, it's wintertime in Colorado, damn, the people who voted for Bush stole them to keep their evangelical churches warm.

Fscking red states...

Exactly what I've said numerous times. Anyone with a high school chemistry book can take $50, go to WalMart, and blow up an entire shopping mall with a couple days' planning. Making explosives is so easy it's scary. There is no way you can eliminate the ability for someone to build explosives, short of taking any type of chemical off the shelves. For example, aluminum foil + toilet cleaner = bomb. Is it big news every time someone steals a bottle of toilet cleaner? I would actually think that terrorists would be more likely to pay for it to avoid suspicion.
