The guy at my local Gamestop said they are also giving away a free Xplorer Guitar with every purchase while supplies last.

If I had any friends, or thought playing a plastic guitar with 5 buttons was fun, I would definitely pick this up.

I was very skeptical about the game too until I played it at a friend's house. I immediately went out and bought a guitar and the game and eventually upgraded to GH:WT full kit. The game seems stupid but in reality is addicting.

Same....my bro-in-law had it and after my wife pulling me away kicking and screaming from the plastic guitar, I bought my own. Very fun and very addictive.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be dickish. I just know if I bought the full band kit I would play it once then shove it in the closet.

What's the best current GH game+just guitar? I may pick that up to see what all the hoopla is about.

IMO Rock Bad is still better than GH because of the sheer amount of extra songs available to download, regardless of the instrument played. If you find you prefer the GH controller you can still use that on Rock Band (on the 360 anyway). Since you've never played them before you probably won't have a preference either way so it's up to you. Find a friend with it or demos set up in stores to see what you enjoy.

Also just search for threads in the console gaming forum if you're serious about it. There have been several threads about which game is better.

I already have the original RB on 360 and contemplating getting in on this just so I could get wireless stuff. Thing is, some people say they have problems and all. Which begs the question, why r they unloading these now? New set coming out, buggy, poor quality?
