What I find amazing is that GTA4 had an opening week north of $400m.

Hard to believe, but the video game industry has equaled, if not surpassed Hollywood in terms of opening week/weekend hoopla.

Don't forget though, on average 1 video game = 5 movie tickets ($50 game/$10 ticket). Makes it easier for them to hit higher dollar amounts with close to or equal number of customers/units/etc.

GTA IV was $60.

It was just an example. The average price for a new game release is still about $50.

GTA IV was $60.

The average domestic ticket is just about $7 also.

It was just an example, used to illustrate a point. If you want to be more technical it is about 1 copy of GTA IV = ~8.571428 movie tickets, using those numbers. Happy?

Big whoop. Another beefed up superhero movie for the masses just in time for summer.. I don't even care if it's "good" I'm sick of a movie being made about every freaking comic book character ever conceived. What's next, the story of Catwoman? Oh right, already done.
And really, IRON man? Where's Carbon-Nanofiber-Titanium-Superalloy Man?

...

wow so much bitterness in this thread.

Haha, not bitter I just wish there were more original movies being made opposed to these regurgitated superhero stories or drawn-out sequels/prequels based on superhero stories. where's the originality?

Ask and ye shall recieve

I enjoyed Iron Man, just wish I had stayed after the end credits. 🙁

Luckily, there are clips on Youtube.

Incidentally, Batman Begins was still superior because Batman doesn't wear a suit of powered armor yet still kicks ass. 😛

And a video game is a better entertainment value for your dollar (GTA will give you 30+ hours of entertainment for $60 vs 2 hours for $10), and a blockbuster game does not come out as often as a blockbuster movie. It's really not fair to compare sales between the two industries.

But I think this can lay to rest the crazy idea that Halo 3 was responsible for the Heartbreak Kid doing poorly on its opening weekend since GTA IV was bigger than Halo 3 and doesn't seem to have hurt Iron Man.

There was a trailer for Will Eisner's "The Spirit". Oh, the humanity. It looked like crap.

I saw it yesterday at Century City with Jason Schwartzman.

FWIW, he's referring to the fact that jason Schqartzman was driving through Century City at precisely the same time JS80 sat down in the theater.

Gonna watch it tomorrow. Have to time the show times so I can watch at least 2 movies.

Iron Man + harold and kumar / sarah marshall (kristen bell!) / forbidden kingdom

Ps. LOL at people who QQ about ticket prices when they have cell phone bills in the hundreds, cable bills in the hundreds, eating out bills in the hundreds. Oh noes, the $10 is gonna kill me, and then I have to buy like $20 of overpriced junk food in the theatre. Here's a clue, buy some In N Out double doubles and bring that shit in w/ you.

Went to it on friday with the girlfriend, we both enjoyed it. The guy at the register told us to stay after the credits for a surprise, we did and it was pretty awesome. Nice little preview of what's coming up next 😉

When I first saw the previews for this movie I imagined it would suck like most super hero movies (even with me being a serious comic fanatic in my youth). But man it was probably best super hero movie, right up there with Bat Begins, I have ever seen. Robert Downy Jr. really nailed Tony starks just like Christian Bale made an awesome Bruce Wayne.
