i would definitely spend it on cookware too. i'd never buy clothes there. I recommend the analon advanced cookset, but it's $100 more. The analon 15pc knife block is really nice too. I don't know how it compares to the shun, but it comes with a nice 7" santuku.

Hmm... I'm seriously considering holding onto it for a while and saving up to put it towards some really nice cookware like you mentioned... but damn that Shun is tempting.

For those who say the cookware... should I go Anolon or Circulon?

Or should I just get one really nice skillet or wok and build it slowly? I'm on a budget as a starving student, so I'm looking for the most cost-effective option. I don't really NEED a ten piece set as I have some other pieces that aren't as nice, but I'd really like something nice for stir-frying and the like.

pyonir: It's quite tempting actually. :)

ppl make fun of me wearing Nautica (it's old school for the young folks) but they are comfortable and im not breaking the bank with $80 sweaters from A&F or Polo.

Me laugh at me in-laws that spend $100 on a pair of jean that looks like my jeans. no wonder they cant afford a car.

Dress slacks.

I have a bad habit of sitting down in chairs with fixed wooden arms and snagging the pocket of my slacks - this tends to rip a big whole in the pant leg.

you have not developed ultimate ferengi macy's skills. go on a weekend, cruise the clearance racks, and on the weekend you will usually get at least an extra 25% off the reduced clearance price. AND on the weekends, in your local paper, they will usually also run an extra 10% off coupon.

i've purchased many items for under 10 bucks at macy's. it takes patience.

if you get circulon, make sure you don't get one of the sets with the molded-on plastic handles (as opposed to screws or rivets) because the first time you drop it the handle will most likely break off leaving just a metal stub.

I'm also stuck with $125 in Macy's store credit. I thought I could pick up some nice jewelry for the missus, but Macy's jewelry section was surprisingly suck.

My mom loves Macys because they seem to have sales and then more sales. I don't know how they get business during regular times. They have one-day Wednesday sales with Tuesday being a "preview" day when you can get the sale prices too. WTF... it just seems like you should never shop there at full price.

BTW, I got $150 dress pants for $45 after a coupon and using my wife's Macy's card. The lady at the register pulled out a coupon for me after ours were invalid for it because of the brand name. I just have to say - nice mark-up.

nearly bought my wedding band there... they were running half off on all fine jewelry, then another 10% off coupon, and then i was going to open a macy's account for another 10% off.

but the one i liked was too thick. :brokenheart:

Retail: 999.00
after 50%: 499.50
minus 10% coupon: 449.55
minus another 10% 404.60
+ 8.25% sales tax: 437.98

i'll try looking again around... mother's day. :D or valentine's day. i only shop with coupons at macy's. this was for a white gold band with channel set diamonds.
