i recently noticed that my pretty new computer (16gb ram, i7 core 3.4ghz processor, 64bit windows 10) has been slowing down lately. pretty soon i noticed that basically at all times when i go to task manager it says my disk usage is 100% when when im idling at the desktop. when i look in processes in task manager it says "system" is the culprit that is driving my disk usage way up to 100% even while im simply idling at a website. i have a samsung evo 500gb SSD, it def should not be at 100% usage. ive tried a few things so far to try to fix it but none have worked. also, ever since i got the SSD i have paid for and been using bitdefender 2016 brand antivirus in the background and regularly running scans etc which have always shown no indication of malware of viruses. heres the things ive tried:

1. went into services.msc and disabled superfetch. also disabled "background intelligence transfer service"
2. disabled and uninstalled adobe flash
3. went into settings and turned off all the windows "predictive" options as well as windows defender etc
4. went into registry and disabled prefetch
5. disabled windows defender etc (i use current up-to-date 2016 bitdefender antivirus)
6. checked the drivers/firmware for my motherboard and samsung evo 500gb SSD harddrive (the only harddrive in my pc) which are both up to date
7. went into settings and disabled all the frivilous/unnecessary windows notifications and predictive technologies
8. did an error check on my SSD by right clicking the ssd drive and going to properties and selecting error check. results showed no problems
9. turned off the auto "optimization and defrag" that was being done on my SSD weekly
10. deleted adobe flash player through the control panel
11. disabled BITS (background intelligent transfer service)

does anyone know how to fix this problem of disk usage being at 100% on windows 10 (with an ssd) that results in slow/laggy performance? i feel like ive tried everything but nothing fixes it. here are a few screenshots so you can see. any and all help and suggestions are very much appreciated.

here are a few pics showing my task manager. these were taken with nothing more than opera browser open with a few tabs on a few different reputable websites. no intensive games or anything running in the background. nevertheless, still 100% of disk power is being used

another pic of my task manager performance. note the 3% cpu usage and the 26% memory usage, in contrast to the 100% disk usage

Uninstall Windows 10, Install windows 7 x64. Disable updates.
can i still bacaktrack to windows 7 even tho i upgraded from 7 to 10 about ~5 months ago? in hindsight i much prefered 7 to 10. far less problems with 7 than 10. would i have to have a windows 7 installation disk to revert back?

Probably. I have a couple around. That is your best bet.

I wouldn't be so quick to go back to Win7 if you haven't really had other specific issues with Win10. You need to figure out what specifically is writing/being written to, as it could be something affecting both Win7 and Win10. Go to your resource monitor (task manager, performance tab, resource monitor at the bottom). Go to the disk tab, and start looking at the 'processes with disk activity' and 'disk activity' section. Play around with the sorting to see if something is reading or writing an inordinate amount of data, you can pluck out the service too and see what files are being written to. That can give you a better indication of what is actually happening, and you may find it to be something relatively tame, like indexing which you never let complete, or defender doing a virus scan on a 5TB drive full of zip files, or something.

Yeah, it's definitely an annoying Windows 10 bug/issue, but at least it was easy enough to fix (for now).

They must not test their updates for very long with Windows 10 before rolling them out. It seems like with every update they do, it always introduces some weird/annoying issue that would show up in testing.

I saw another update come across last night, so it might have been been to fix the issues from the update they had a few days ago.

Yeah, it wasn't exactly related, but with the timing I thought I would mention it. I really don't know what is going on with MS lately.
