100% CPU-usage w/ WC3

There is a registry mod for wacraft 3 that allows users with a widescreen display to not have a horrific stretched picture.
It's quite simple, you just go into the registry and find resheight and reswidth and change them. Without this, WC3 does not support Wide resoultions.
However I've noticed that If your WC3/TFT res is modified in the registry, after starting warcraft and then switching to your desktop (win key or alt+tab) and returning, the CPU sky rockets to a constant 100% usage, increasing power drain and heat output dramatically.thrott
CPU-Usage does not drop even 1% until warcraft is restarted, and after you've alt tabbed once it shoots up again.

I've contacted blizzard about this, minus the fact that I've modified the registry in hope for finding a fix. (I did not inform them or they would have immediately discontinued the support ticket because I modified something)
If no solution presents itself I plan to reveal that I 'tricked' them, and perhaps they will be so merciful as to further support me.

Does anyone knowledgeable here have any ideas as to why this is occuring?

in every other game it does, and even in wc3 if i dont alt-tab at all.
plus in warcraft you dont need a high framerate. its an old strategy game, not cutting edge First person shooter.

im sure we can both agree that a game like battlfield 2 or fear will tax my machine and produce more heat much more than warcraft, right?
but this is not the case!
