going to spend my christmas cash to buy a new pair of headphones.. my hd-555's are pretty beat up, i've traveled around with them alot.. they're held together with tape :p

what would be a good pair of headphones for around 100-200 bucks? brand doesnt matter, but ill be wearing them alot so a "circumaural" design like the hd-555s would be nice since its so comfortable. they'll be used for music and gaming

Oh yeah sorry about your... ahhh screw it.

Anyways if you don't want to look around there:

Audio Technica ATH A 900 - off ebay for near $200

Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80ohm

Whatever Sennheiser model is within that price range.

the Sony V6 is a great set of cans that are built like a tank. they sound great too. I like them better than the above mentioned and you can pick them up for around 80 bucks.

AKG K600 seems good, Sennheiser 595, Grado SR225; you will want to listen to these puppies yourself as they are vastly different and suit different people.

You liked them better than A900s and DT770s?

There's plenty worth checking out. One new one is the Alienware Ozma 7, which is just a rebadged Ultrasone HFi-700, only for $50 less (although you do have to deal with the alien head logo, which I personally don't find any better or worse than Ultrasone's own logo). I think Dell was selling it for ~$170. Its closed and more portable than the A900 or DT770, sounds quite good too.

There is also the Goldring DR150, Sennheiser HD-25 I/II, and I'm sure several others that I'm forgetting.

I have the HD 280 Pros. They have great sound. I love them, but they aren't as comfortable as many of the other Sennheiser cans. I think you will get a bit better sound from the HD 280's, but the HD555's will be a bit more comfortable.

A bit?!!? The HD 555's are a lot more comfortable... to my head and ears :p They do sound good though.

Well I haven't tried the HD555's so I was just making a conservative guess. I think any of the sennheiser headphones in that range are good options, though.

I picked up myself a set of Sennheiser HD590s last January when they were on clearance at my University electronics store for $100. I'd suggest the HD595, which are their sucessor. :)

Ridiculously clear, crisp music. I have a nice cMoy-based headphone amplifier custom-built for me by Gerbil333 here on the AT forums. They're also soooo comfortable. Can't go wrong!

EDIT: I should mention that I've grown acustomed to the open-air sound that is used by these headphones in their design. In other words, there is no plastic shell that keeps the sound to only your ears. The design has holes all around the driver, which makes music audible to anyone that's relatively close to me. Think of holding a speaker up to each ear that's not housed inside a cabinet. :) The sound is very natural when tuned just right.
