100-150 dollar cards

Im tryin to get the best bang for the buck between 100 and 150 bucks for my new microatx pc. PCI express of course, i just havent been following the graphics scene that much lately and im not sure which would serve me best, its gona be used for gaming for sure, but im on a budget, i can overclock if nessecary though. To give you an idea of how out of it ive been, im still running a geforce4 ti4200 thats overclocked :x

Get yourself 16 pipelines of power and 256-bits of memory interface with a....

Radeon X850XT !!!

S.M 3.0/HDR, TRAA + low power consumption/small/less heat.

Its not faster than the X850XT...simply because of the pipes and the memory interface.
They do make THAT MUCH of a difference.

On a lighter note....
There was a comment made in a Newegg review on the X850XT....
I found it extremely funny....

You cant just compare the number of pipeline or the memory interface. Its funny because a 12 pipe 128bit 7600GT is much faster than both 6800GT/GS which both have 256bit 16 pipe config. Not to mention a 7600GT stands up to a X1800GTO which is a 12 pipe 256bit card. Arguably a X1800GTO is faster than a X850XTPE.

I can find benchmarks for you if you done believe me. Even if they were same performance, i would choose the 7600GT due to the fact its much better in terms of heat/power/IQ (TRAA/HDR etc)

You do have a point but its practical that the X850XT does outperform a 7600GT.
Especially if you overclock it to, let's say, PE speed like mine but...
Mine isn't really up for much discussion....its running at PCIe 4x (due to my mobo).

OC the 7600GT. Probably OCes even more.

mine can still go further...i'm just testing how it runs at PE vs stock.
i'm not picking an arguement....so....to end this....
Lets just say that i'm extremely happy with the performance of my X850XT (also @ PE)....lol.

If you check out the Tom's hardware VGA charts, the X850XT is a little faster than the 7600GT, especially when AA or AF is used. Its a lot faster in certain games. The both overclock OK, but the X850XT will benefit more from the same overclock, due to its 16 pipes and 256-bit bus. However the 7600GT does run cooler and is probably quieter. I;'d probably go for the 7600GT if I was buying now, although its nice that the X850XT pumps warm air out of the case.

It depends which games you look at. The x800 and the 9800 series cards have had AAA available for about a year now, which accomplishes the same thing as TRAA. The 7600gt wins in games like AOE3, COD2, BF2, and Riddick. The x850xt/pe wins in Doom 3, Quake 4, FEAR, SS2, and Chaos Theory. This is when tested at HQ driver settings, with AAA or TRAA enabled.

I like Tom's Hardware...their charts are awesome.
You are totally correct and I second your post.
I went for the X850XT though...

I just dealt with this idiocy @CPU/OC forum. It's slightly different but similar at the same time. Some folks were claiming that in modern games CPU (especially C2D) is more important than GPU. And their base was their personal experiences of playing BF2 with mid-low detail with X850XT. They were swearing that they could kill anyone with their fast CPU and suggesting the OP to upgrade the CPU instead of GPU. 😀 I told them to go to Video forum to give folks there some laugh.

But I guess I was wrong.
