Not sure if this has already been posted but Best Buy is having a sale on 50 pack PNY CDR spindles, 14.99 apiece and if you get 2 packs you get a 14.99 mail-in rebate. so 15 bucks for 100

Don't try to use these for audio. They are horrible, not to mention the rampant RAM advertising all over these POS's. Get some good quality stuff. Right now you can get 2 50pack spindles of Sony 650MB's at CompUSA for $35 (with tax) after a $30 MIR.

I have yet to hear a favorable review of the PNY CDR's. I know everyone has a favorite but these seem to genuinely suck. I have used the Sony CDR's and have had very favorable results. If you have used the PNY and they worked for you, please post you findings. My 0.02

I have a spindle of these at home, I have made copies of cd's for all my friends and have not once had a problem. They read on everybody's cd players and I've used up at least half of one spindle so far, so I dont know where these reports are coming from but i've had not a single issue. helluva deal for 15 bucks in my opinion, i'm gonna go get 2 more.

Call me cheap but I've used these PNY CD-Rs in the past and haven't had a single coaster.

Then again [pre-emptive brag & moan] using my Plextor 12/10/32A probably helps a little :)

I can not read PNY CDRs in several DVD/CD drives (two in laptops, one - desktop). They work fine in my CD and CDRW drives. YMMV.

Here is the info from my PNY CDR.
ATIP: 97m 28s 22f
Disc Manufacturer: Multi Media Masters & Machinery SA
Assumed Dye type: Cyanine (Type 2)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

And here is th info from my Sony CDR
ATIP: 97m 24s 01f
Disc Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden Company Ltd.
Assumed Dye type: Cyanine (Type 1)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 656.40MB (74m 43s 00f / LBA: 336075)

As you can see, Cyanine is very agreeable with my Plextor drive. I don't recall ever burning a coaster with the PNY's unless it was my fault. Its been a while since I burned a coaster with the SONY's

i just used a full spindle of the 50pack 12x 700mb PNYs myself, i got it during the after-thanksgiving day sale @ staples for $12.99. using a plextor 12/10/32a, i didn't get a single coster, and used them for various types of media. data cd and game backups worked perfectly, music cds read fine in cd-players, stereos, and car players. half of them went to backups of my dreamcast games, which are notoriously picky, and ran through perfectly. if you've had problems with the PNY cd-rs i'd be interested to know which cd-r drive you were using, and i'd be especially interested if you got a coster using a plextor drive. just another vote for the PNY, best value for cd-rs i've seen since the kingston packs from outpost =)

Page 34 of the Weekly Store Ad . Your local ads may be different, but when it asks for an area code for your local flier I used area code 04240 (Maine) and it has the info about the MIR. A mail in rebate should be a national offer though.Click Here For the Link to the Weekly Store Ad

Also if you look under P in the rebate center there's 15 dollar rebate on PNY 80 minute discs, but the date says 11/24 to 11/24/00 heh wierd, but obviously a typo if BestBuy has it in this weeks flyer :p

These are great, because my 12/10/32x plextor makes them great, or any cd great for that matter. "burn proof" is really the best! these cdrs work in my buddies' dreamcast, but i won't say for what purpose. *whistles*

PNY is great media. Very cheap and reliable. I make many music cd's. Legal mp3's of course.

i have used PNY's for a while now with many different burners and different cd/dvd drives and all i can say is that i haven't had much coasters or had difficulty reading them (minimal probs at the very most). all i have to say is that the cdr's aren't much of a problem but the damn rebate process is a biiiitch.... i've had probs gettin PNY rebates in the past.. even up to this day...

>> THIS ALSO GOES FOR IMATION REBATES...!! no mo' cdr rebates for me!! :|

Murpheeee, in answer to your question of how to get the rebate, I picked up two spindles of these last weekend. The rebate was automatically printed with my receipt (seems to be how Best Buy rebates work for lots of things).

I haven't cracked these open, and I've never used PNY CDRs before, so I can't vouch for them.

I've used these crap cd-r's and they refuse to play in my car stereo player... and they act funny when i burn data cd's...i've had at least 15 which i checked back after burning later on that refuses to even read in my cd-rom or my dvd-rom drive. there must have been a lot of bad batches or something, cuz i know im not the only one... to think i wasted a 40 dollar gc to buy.com on 2 of these stupid spindles a year ago

I have used almost 50 of them so far without any coaster. I have made audio CD, data CD, MP3 data CD. They're playable on cd player, Apex dvd player. I don't have a cd player for my car so I don't know how well it plays there. I read cd player for cars are very picky.

Most CDs, no matter what brand they're, are fine. If there are problems, they're mostly my system's problem, or data problem. For one thing, I don't do complex stuffs like copy games. I do most data copying from HD. It's rare to have problems. BTW, I have used CDs on SONY CRX-160E and Panasonic 7502.

My PNY's have had no problem . . . but be warned about their rebates . . . they are known not to honor them even if the rebate is LEGIT. They burned me for a $15.00 rebate a couple of months ago. Also they won't work in some of the older CD-R drives.

rebate never arrives? what a surprise. i hate rebates, even if they do come in 6 months. if i had the money to spare then i would have gotten better stuff. but i guess it just depends on the manufacturer. i probably have gotten about 75% of all my rebates. is it worth it if its just a few dollars? well if you dont get it its only a few dollars right. so maybe its worth it if say, you save 100 on 400? good deal huh? but what if it doesnt arrive? i'd be pissed. ok enough venting =P

ANYWAYS, what many of you don't realize is that your brand and model of cd recorder plays a HUGE role in the outcome of your cds and the range of the medias' quality. if you have a PLEXTOR, then you know what i'm talking about and have fun burning your 500th or 5000th flawless iso heh (if not, im sorry you weren't better informed). its been a while so i dont know how yamaha, teac, hp etc are doing but if you're running one of the 3rd tier brands - memorex, ricoh, lg (goldstar) you're just gonna have to find the type of blanks that work best for you, and stick with em. even premium cds may not work well with your burner.

final words, next time buy a PLEXTOR. plex ownz yew

PNY CDRs rule. They can be played in all CD players and my toshiba DVD player too.
I have had so much compatibility problems with other CDrs that I ordered the PNY 50 pack spindle from buy.com for about 25 bucks even though there are others available for 12 bucks. I wish I had seen this deal before.

BUT, PNY rebates suck big time. I had a lot of trouble getting a memory rebate and never received a CDR rebate.
