100,000 miles for AT

My boy and I hooked up with some other runners and ran one loop (16.5 miles) of the Finger Lakes 50s course. OMFG I was stupid and tried to keep up with the fast ones for the first 12 miles. Yeah, big mistake. I was forced to walk much of the last mile as a result.

The trail was muddy. Very muddy.
It was hot and humid.
The deer flies were horrid.
I lost 6.2 pounds while out there. And for the first time ever I ran myself into puking. ugh

I think I can do well if I taper. I was tired going into this run. And if I wear a hat and bug repellent with DEET. And finally, if I run my own pace.

Good lord am I wrecked now. Time for sleep.

fatpat268 - how's it going. Welcome to the thread. What's your running history? Road or trails? Long or short distance?

I had a hairline fracture in my leg that happened while playing basketball a couple of months ago. I never really did run that much, but I'm making an effort to increase my endurance and speed while running. As it is right now, I can barely make it 3 miles (I could barely make it 1 mile a month and a half ago :whiste🙂, but I'm making progress lately.

The weather hasn't been tremendously helpful either. In the mornings, it's frequently 75F with 80% humidity, and the afternoons 90F with 60%. Ugh. Anyway, mostly road running for me... occasionally trails. A lot easier to run from the house than to drive 10 miles to the nearest trail.

Anyway

welcome back RB! What are you shooting for in Chicago?

I did a nice easy 10 on the trails at Mendon Ponds today. Beautiful day for a run.

Hey Scorch - good seeing you again! Shooting for a 3:45-3:50. That was my goal last year at WR and then again at OKC, but I really didn't have the mileage per week to back it up. I know I can do it this time around. (Previously, my old plan had me peaking at around 40mpw, which is what I'm just about averaging now in the early weeks of training) I'm only peaking around 63 in my new plan, but if that can't get me to my goal, I have bigger issues. What are you shooting for?

Mega - I created my own based on the "principles" I learned in the RRCA class I took. Was good to really learn the nitty gritty basics - a lot of which I totally ignored or didn't think twice about.

Finally able to run again, now have to rebuild where I was. Grrr, stupid IBS. Glad it's over. This week starts my training schedule to get ready for a marathon at the end of September (minimum of a half depending on how training goes). Adding my 7 miles over the past week though 🙂. Feels great to run again.

Goal for this week is 12-15 miles depending on the body.

I can't claim to know what IBS is like, but I know an upset stomach is one of the most uncomfortable things to run with. I've been eating dried apricots lately and, I think, making the path rather unpleasant for anybody that comes along behind me 😱 Glad you're back at it now.

I'm also getting ready for a marathon in the fall. I'm trying for one at the end of September but I have some vacation coming up that will interrupt my training. If I'm not ready, I'll do the half and then go for a full in October. This'll be my first. Have you done one before?

Welcome back DisgruntledVirus. It does feel good to be back to running doesn't it?

I did 3.1 on the treadmill after my strength workout. My foot turnover is pretty damned smooth, I hope this keeps up until after the 50.

Nice Mega! Sounds like you had a great run there!! 😛

I did 8 miles on Friday, a 10K race (won it pretty easily; the only other guy there to challenge me wasn't feeling too good) totaling 10 on Saturday, and 15 fairly hard miles yesterday. 10 miles again today.

Got a pair of Nike Free Run +'s and ran in them for the first time the other day. Really enjoyed their lightness and flexibility. We'll see how durable they are.

Tried a three mile run this morning, but it felt like I hit a brick wall in progress. Mostly because of the weather. 80F with 90% humidity and sunny. Ugh. I'd kill for an overcast 60F with 40% humidity.

I hope you never have to deal with IBS. If you do, the best things for me were: Foam roller, stretches, and Advil.

This will also be my first. I decided last fall when we volunteered at the expo they do for the marathon (sponsors and get your race # and all that stuff) that I wanted to do it as a personal goal for myself. I have vacation in the middle of August to Texas, but I still plan to keep training while there (even if it involves running at night to stay out of the heat).

Thanks! It definitely feels good to get back to it. Especially since my gf was talking about running the whole time, I was just getting irritated because I couldn't. I'm happy for her and support her running, but damn does it suck hearing "I ran x distance" or "I feel so good from that run" or any of that stuff when you can't. 😛

I'd love to know how they work for you. I will be due for a new pair in a month or two, and would love to know how those work. I want to get a more "minimalist shoe."

Did a bit over a 5k yesterday, and really felt great the last mile or so. Taking today as a rest day, and plan to do another 5k tomorrow.

Personal weekly miles- 3 done, goal of 12-15 this week.

Today was awesome outside so I went for a run even though my legs weren't feeling it. And I only got 2 hours of sleep last night. Ugh Oh well, 6 miles on the trails is tonic for what ails ya.
