10 years later, I QUIT Smoking! Thanks to the E-Cig

I have been an off and on again smoker for around 10 years, mostly on. I would quit or cut back when a girlfriend or job forced me to. The longest I ever quit was maybe for a couple weeks. 1/2 PPD smoker. I almost immediately broke all my running records for the past year or two (9.5 miles in 60 minutes, 5:23 mile single mile time)

I have only bought two packs in 2 weeks, only due to my first E-Cig having defective batteries and then my E-liquid running out. I have a supply to last several months now, so the smoking is over! My girlfriend has done even better, she has only smoked maybe 10 cigarettes total in the last 3 weeks.

I have the Ego-C, one of the newest models. I'll just say if you shop around you can now get a kit AND a supply of liquid that will last a few months of HEAVY use for $100. Long term I'd say the monthly cost is going to be around $20 compared to $60 for regular cigarettes (I live in a low tax state, Cigs are only $3.30-$5.00 on average)

Keep in mind 1/2 pack is a fairly light smoker and I am still saving lots of money. My lungs have already been feeling better.

Anyone else?

Congrats. I have seen a lot of failure with the E-cigs but it is mainly due to they getting hooked on the e-cig.

Huge boost to your health and well being. Grats!

Did it blow your jaw off?

LOL! I feel horrible for that poor man. Honestly I wonder how a 650 mAh battery (or whatever his was) could do something like that.

The new Ego model seperates the battery so that liquid CAN'T get on it. I wouldn't be surprised if that had something to do with it, but I don't have the details. I wonder what model he had?

What do you mean by getting hooked? I plan on gradually reducing the nicotine, level of the liquid, this was just the first step. I failed on the gum repeatedly, this I felt was the last resort. I am 28 with a pregnant girlfriend...time to make the tough choices. Once I get to the nicotine free liquid maybe I'll give this up to. The flavors are really amazing though...way better than hookah IMHO

Congrats! I sometimes smoke a cigarette when I am drunk. I'm not sure why, guess it feels pretty crazy! Haven't had one in a few months though.

Congrats, have you try to run/jog and see if your lungs are a bit better?

Yes, that is what I was saying in the OP. I am an avid runner and had been running around 50 miles a week with my best hour distance of around 9 miles.

After being smoke free for only THREE days I ran 9.5 in 60 minutes, eventually finishing 13.2 miles total for my new all time record. For the week I did over 73 miles.

My all time record mile time was 5:10 when I was 17. Since then the best I could do was around 5:17 about 3 or 4 years ago during a smoking break.

I have no doubt I will break the record now. I run on a treadmill so I want a 5 minute mile (12 mph for 5 minutes)

Isn't E-cig still bad for you?

Nicontine addiction alone is harmless?

I did gum, inhaler, hypnotism and patch. It took cold turkey to get me to finally quit 8 years ago.

However. A couple years ago I was really stressed and started chewing the nic gum again. I got addicted to it and finally was able to break a 2 year habit. I ended up with horrible TMJ because of my gum addiction.

I have been smoking e-cigs on and off for about two years now. I find that I do really well with them, smoking no cigs for 1-3 months. Then some big event happens like a beer drinking festival, and then I wind up smoking a cig or two there. After that it goes downhill until I force the change again.

The eGo is nice for battery life, but I feel odd smoking it in public. I personally recommend the Volt brand, as it is relatively low cost and much better quality than it's competitors.

After a few days of no cigs, you can really tell the difference in taste and breathing.

Good luck

@SandEagle, @bignateyk, and @TwiceOver (I think, you said yup but not sure if you were agreeing) LOL - Alright, I was trying to play nice even knowing too many of Anandtech Members' tendencies, but I know I am about to make enemies soon anyway once I start owning people in P&N (craig and dmcowen, I'll rescue you! lol...j/k, but I am on the liberal side) in the next day or two so here goes:

Too many people derail and throw horse$hit into threads. I'll post some pics of me on a treadmill tomorrow smoking my e-cig, maybe today. I have a Gold's Gym treadmill sitting to my right and my Ego next to my keyboard.

Other thread topics I might start?
- Hmm, I just started Adderall and love it.
- Running shoes (Hattori's vs Five Finger's vs ultra light weight traditional of various brands)
- Romney's tax plan and website are full of distortions and lies, ETC

What I said is no different than saying, "Go check out that Chevy Volt, I LOVE it. If you shop around you can get it for under $30,000 after credit".

I mentioned a particular product, I didn't even mention the company that manufactures it.
I did not mention where to buy it.
I referenced the best price I have found domestically while specifically NOT providing a link.
I actually thought that my feedback might actually help someone who is considering trying an eCig who is currently a smoker.
WTF is wrong with some of you people? To all who this does not apply to (most of you) thanks...

Yup.

IMHO people who smoke "E sigs" are still smokers. People who chew are smokers (essentially). Stop lying to yourselves and just give up the nicotine completely.

Why? Nicotine has many health benefits, it's the delivery device that's the problem.

I actually had to google what that meant, if that helps.

As much free time as I have right now, I really don't want to get into a long, irrelevant pissing match over the internet. Despite the immaturity at times, I admire the overall intelligence, 190+ IQ's, and 13" sausages that we all possess (at least 95% of all of that at least, come on!) - But in all seriousness, I truly believe if the IQ of Anandtech was tested it would be around 130. There are some really bright individuals here. Undoubtedly some troll for fun, or bait people like you are at the moment to get the response that you are getting. But hey, I am game, I have been thinking of registering here for about 6 months now, mainly for P&N.

Back on topic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotine

Ideally, we probably should all be nicotine free, maybe even caffeine free. We should probably all eat organic foods and never eat red meat. I am far from perfect, so I have to pick and choose my battles.

Positive lifestyle choices: runner, nonsmoker, quit drinking (total abstinence), overall healthy diet, average over 50g fiber a day (incredibly regular, LOL)

Negative lifestyle choices (some I feel are not choices): prescribed Adderall 20mg BID, take a caffeine pill in the morning, Vape on E-Cigs, do not eat quite enough green leafy vegetables.

Anyway, as I was saying, maybe I will quit the e-cig almost completely. Personally, I have a feeling after a year or two I'll switch to low or zero nicotine and pull it out occasionally to socialize with some of my smoker friends.
