It is a pretty old article as several of the games on the list are out or near completion.

Why does Star Trek Online look FAR better in these screenshots than it actually turned out to be?

So sad...

I believe Cryptic actually started from pretty much scratch and only took some general concepts from what Perpetual did.

Same reason Crysis looked much better in the initial previews: They were really just experimenting but no way in hell was the actual finished product ever going to look so good. Processing power of home computers just wasnt ready yet.

Where is Episode Three? I don't see it.

Anyone else? Oh well, could have been a good article.

Seriously though, indeed, an old article (and yeah, DNF is out).

Kinda hilarious to go back and see what came to pass.

No kidding. Diablo 3 was announced 2 months later.

If Metroid Dread was turned out to be that most recent one then I think we'd have been better off if it had never been made. Not even going to say anything about DNF.

Project Hammer? I don't even remember hearing about it and it looks kinda stupid and would have been annoying as with the Wiimote.

Is Max Payne 3 really Max Payne 3? Looks like the character and setting has completely changed.

uh, is Darkfall any good as an mmorpg?

I only played the trial, but it reminded me alot of Oblivion in gameplay. You hit a key to cast your fireball in a certain direction, aimed with your arrows, and so on. Skill based system. Kill something, loot everything. NPC or Player.

Which is why the game was not very popular. Too many people can't take a game in which you get all your items stolen (potentially). However, gear was rather common and easy to replace.

Most of the time I was killed by a player, they'd never loot me, or only loot my gold coins and never my equipment.

One of the downfalls is that they'd purposely put in things which were a chore. Such as looting a player or monster, there was no "loot all" button. You literally had to drag and drop all the items from their corpse into your bag, 1 by 1... They did that on purpose so the person would have a hard time getting all the loot before getting attacked themselves (in case their victim had friends around).

I actually had quite a bit of fun playing it for the week I did with the trial, but realized it would not be fun without any friends to play with regularly.
