10-pin psu on 12-pin mobo

the 10-pin plugs into the mobo
the psu is 450watt and also has a 4 pin that the mobo uses

the hard drive spins up but i get no beeps or anything
its new hardware so im not sure what works and what doesnt

Do you mean 20-pin and 24-pin?

dafuzz: What mobo do you have? some mobo's will work without hte extra 4pins, others require it.
