10 Pack of memorex lightscribe dvd+r

I have to ask, what is so special about litescribe when the media is expensive when you look at labels or printable media. It does only one color of different shades right? Wouldnt it be better and cost effective to buy a printer that prints on a cd and the media for such in every color then this? And last I heard it took like 30 minutes to print a label on one? Im jsut trying to see what the big thing about this is and why would it be better for me to want to try one some time down the line. Im hopping thoes who have them can post pics and give me some idea as why I would ever want to get one for I am missing something or over looking some they do my printer cannot.

Sorry to hijack the thread but thought this would be a good place to get a real answer since most whos going to look in here has one.
 
Why don't you try googling some sites on this. There's a lot of info out there on lightscribe as well as sample images.

I agree. This is the best price I recall but still expensive for what you get. MAybe I'd pay a few extra pennies per disk but the prices on litescribe have been nuts. Eventually it may be a way to differentiate your product from competition but till then, not very interested. Well maybe I'll buy a 10 pack to test it out but then again its memorex. Not usually great media.

While the ones at office depot are memorex and are lightscribe dvds, they are not the same as the ones at best buy. The ones at best buy are lightscribe v1.2, DVD+R 16x.
I think the ones at office depot are older and I'm not sure whether it is lightscribe v1.1 or what. Also, don't think they're 16x either.

EDIT: They're also discontinued if you try to add it to yoru cart.
 
Now $2.99 for 10 is tempting. I'm such a cheap bastard the lowest closeout nonexistant price is where I finally am grudgingly, willing to pay.
 
Wow, I wasted my time.

Best buy didn't have any of them, and office depot was selling those discs for 14.99. Bleh, I guess I could at least order the discs online.

Factor in the ink costs with printable media and I'm willing to bet lightscribe discs are less expensive. Even worse would be labels, you have the cost of a plain-jane disc, ink costs, and the price of labels themselves...Not to mention paper stick on labels can peel and are considered by many to be a complete no-no for dvd usage (though I've personally never had any issues when I used them in the past). Then there is the issue of fading and smearing with ink jet dyes, neither of which are an issue with LS (or at least it's not been around long enough to know if it would fade when stored properly).

Finally, (and this is nice, though I'm sure it will probably change as lightscribe becomes more popular and/or cheaper but I've not encountered it yet) all lightscribe discs (again, that I've encountered thus far) are "1st class media" MCC discs. Hasn't mattered if it's been Verbatim, HP branded, Memorex, etc...All have been MCC's. So far at least I've not had to worry about what's in the package as some people might when buying (most notoriously) Memorex.
