Here?s the way it works. You buy these tasteful, dynamic, unique, attractive, useless Woot-Off lights, for the oddly familiar price of $3 plus $5 shipping. That?s your end of the deal.

Then, if the last digit of your order number matches the last integer digit (that?s the ones digit) of the final Dow Jones Industrial Average at the close of business Monday, July 13, 2009 (after all settling), we?ll send you a bonafide Bag O? Crap. We promise only that it will include a bag and some quantity of crap. Thrilling, we know.

interesting way to get a BOC, and you have a 10% chance.

Hmmmm...taking a moment...

This "deal" leaves me with a dilemma ...

Do I buy a Woot that I do not need and take a 10% chance that I could actually win a genuine bag-of-crap (again, that I don't need) or ...

Do I spend the $8 ($3 + $5 shipping) for 8 chances to win the lottery at 1/13,900,000 odds (each)?

Oh, the pain of having to choose ...

Why not make them all boc's and just put Woot off lights in 90% of them?

I was kinda feeling lucky today. Also, the fact that woot and I share a birthday almost made it an obligation for me.

And that birthday's today? Otherwise it has nothing to do with the BOC...

B/c that will get less sales. Think about it, a BOC is worth a lot more than that light and are much more limited in number. By doing this, they can effectively sell 1000% their BOC volume and only give out 100% BOCs.

Is there a inoculation against it?

That's a tough one, luckily for me it sold out and negated such a dilemma. I will probably end up spending the $8 on caffeinated products.

For spending $8 you get $10 in coupons for future wootage, so for $8 you get some goofy lights, and 2 coupons. And a chance at a BOC, which is better than trying to hit F5 100 times at 3 in the morning... good luck to everyone who is waiting to see if you 'won'

Thank you for celebrating five years of Wooting with us with yesterday's Woot-Off light event. We remain as awed by your support as we were by the third day after we rolled out Woot 1.0 back in 2004. Our families still don't trust that we have real jobs. Mainstream media editors still can't figure out if they can publish the word "crap". Silicon Valley still calls looking to get their groove back. After 5 years, we're as energized by our disruption and spectacle as we were on launch day and we have only you to thank for making the insanity that is Woot possible. OK, well, you and our pharmacist.

We'd like to show appreciation of your support by issuing two coupon codes for future use on your account. (In addition to shipping your order, that is.) Coupon code Deleted Code is a $5 coupon code that may be used on any sale on any dot-woot site. Coupon code Deleted Code is an additional single use code for $5 off of any product total above $30.

You can use these immediately on any dot-woot site and they have no expiration date. For instance, Shirt.Woot lovers can get a daily shirt for $5 after discount, and two of our top 20 shirts from the Reckoning list (http://shirt.woot.com/Blog/?cat=reckoning) for $25 after discount - both including shipping. (Shirt.Woot newbs, take note: our shirt sizes tend toward the small/tighter fit, so consider upsizing.) Wine.wooters can hang out in our robust and growing wine community while considering our two offerings a week that launch Monday and Thursday. Sellout.wooters can. well, you get the picture here. Whatever you do, you can do it cheaper with these coupon codes.

For those of you wishing to be encumbered by more crap than just the lights you ordered, but who want to keep the element of surprise in place until your shipment arrives, Woot will not be communicating logistics of which order numbers were crapped on via email. We would expect the Woot-Off light thread (http://www.woot.com/Forums/Vie...t.aspx?PostID=3313896) to have this information in real-time commentary forum, so participate in that if you're looking for spoilers.

Thanks again, and may the good crap be yours for another five years, at least -
