It's good to be da king.

I don't think Ozzy at $10 million makes it into the top 1000 most expensive celebrity homes let alone the top 10.

Ah the 1%.

What about the poor? We could fit 10,000 poor families easily on Oprah's property.

Since these are celebrity houses this is absolutely acceptable.

Now if they were CEO houses, we would have to discuss how Corporate America is only profiting on the backs on the working stiff, and the income equality metric must be equalized.

Well, to be fair there is one (ex)CEO there. But he leans quite a bit to the left, so its all good :)

Are you able to point out the gaps / inaccuracies?

I just found it interesting, regardless of how out of date it might be.

Yeah, I'd like to hear what the current top 10 list is if he's so sure this isn't right.

the #1 home, Spelling Manor, is actually no longer owned by a celebrity (the Formula One CEO bought it a few years ago)... and while it was listed at $150 million, it eventually sold for "only" $85 mill.

I saw a docu-reality show on the house a couple years ago... interesting note was that apparently it was designed by Aaron Spelling's wife, but she'd never done blueprints before and accidentally had the structure built much larger than originally intended.

My wife was watching a show about that place....might have been the same one. After Aaron Spelling died, his wife was trying to pack up all her stuff to move out....I can't imagine how difficult it would be to let stuff go from a place that large. In other words, most people with 2000 square feet have trouble cleaning out rooms.....you could easily be a hoarder in a place like that and it'd take forever to notice.....even more difficult to clean up/clean out.

A lot of ugly monstrosities. I did like Bill Gates house though.

One of my former customers did much of the masonry work for that house. There was also a lot of "smart house" technology installed that was state-of-the-art in the early 90s but fairly pedestrian now. For example, guests would register with the concierge (or whatever their title is) and indicate their favorite music style, lighting preferences, etc. then their section of the house was tailored accordingly.

Gates complained at first because the property taxes were going to be well over $600,000 (over $1M today). He said his salary was only $600K and his property taxes shouldn't be higher than his salary. Obviously his stock options and bonuses netted a lot more than his base salary.

We need a top ten most expensive ATOT homes list.

Could make a nice list, I think I recall someone saying their house was close to 1mil.

The only issue I'd have with having such a huge house is the time it would take to clean it, not to mention the property taxes. Though I guess when you make that much money you hire a building maintenance service that does the cleaning, plowing, mowing etc....

I'm happy with my 1100sqf house, and I'd be fine living in something smaller if I had to.

the less space you have, the less you have to deal with friends/family looking for a place to crash (re: free hotel room when they're in town)

3 bedrooms would probably be my max if I were home shopping (and even then, figuring that 1 bedroom would be a home office for my partner and I if we didn't have space for separate offices and the 2nd bedroom would be a storage room with a cot thrown in the corner)

I just found it interesting, regardless of how out of date it might be.

Most of those houses are no longer owned by who the website says owns them.

Most of the square footage estimates are incorrect. (ie, Billy Joel's house, 300k square feet? give me a break)

And define "celebrity"? There are many other "famous person" houses are are more expensive and bigger than the ones listed here, depending on how you define celebrity.

The website owner is clearly just slopping together a MFA (Made for Adsense) site just to get clicks.
