I have never heard of half of them.

Metal foam?! Using bulk diamonds as material (instead of useless jewelry)?!

Sweet!

Believe it or not...only about ~20% of diamonds are used in jewerly...most are used fo industrial purposes (hardest naturally occuring substance). But Diamond coated jets would be cool!

yes just what we need transparent swords!!!

ive heard of most of that stuff before and its cool as hell especially #1 and #3 negative refractive index FTW

Wow there's some cool stuff in there. Can't wait to see the world in 2050 if some of that stuff becomes mainstream.

rofl, low expectations. A lot more than that will become mainstream in 2050.

You should probably check out the other no less interesting articles in Michael Anissimov's blog.

Saw a program on comets and star dust particles. They use aerogel to capture the star dust particles. It's uber cool.

aerogels are awesome.. amazing insulators also.

Imagine a jet, with hundreds of thousands of moving parts made of fine-tuned diamond machinery. Such a craft would be more powerful than today?s best fighter planes in the way an F-22 is better than the Red Baron?s Fokker Dr.I.
Good luck machining diamond components. 🙂
I imagine that they'd have to be formed very close to the final desired shape.
