I'm just wondering if some of you more experienced ATG'ers can chime in and tell me how hard it would be to replace the clutch on my 2010 Honda Civic LX 1.8l w/ 5 speed manual. I am good with my hands, and work at a quick lube place. I can get access to either a lift or at least some jack stands. Also, should I go OEM, or after market, I've heard Exedy is good. Would a clutch for an Si work?

First thing you should do is figure out why your clutch is gone so quickly. Driving habits or something else?

Personally, I would stick with a stock clutch on something like that.

with a lift it should be easy if you know what you are doing. Can't go wrong with original clutch but upgrade is okay too. I believe the first thing is disconnect the linkage to shifter and pedal. Then bolts to bell housing. Then springs then clutch. It is time consuming without power tools.

springs = I mean pressure plate

This guy below is also right.

It's not ready to change yet I'm just wondering for when it is cuz honda clutch get mushy

Spongy pedal? The clutch material isn't mushy.. So I'm guessing something else is going on?

On most FWD you have to remove the half shaft, transmission, change the trans fluid. It can be a pain.

Regarding clutch brands, the "best" changes every couple years. On many forums people go from worn out stock to shitty aftermarket and then tout the aftermarket as the be all end all..... But it's not like people are trying 3-4 clutches over the life of the car.

If it were me, I would try to stick with honda or the OEM for them. If the SI verified 100% fits then I would go with that. I got burned by a high end aftermarket clutch on an se-r 15-20 years ago. Spent all weekend swapping it, and got a bad throw out bearing out of the box.

A clutch is a little different from brakes or plugs or whatever. If you don't like your brakes it's a couple hour swap. But a FWD clutch is a major PITA. It's not worth risking your time messing with questionable parts.

Unless you're working with someone else who has done it before I'd avoid doing it even with a lift since you'd be under the car for quite some time dropping the tranny and such.

It's a family car anyways so I might just leave it for my parents to deal with. I want to buy an si coupe of the same generation when I graduate high school.
