My sister went to WalMart tonight to print some pictures taken with a digital camera and the price is now only 10 cents for each 4x6. The pictures look very good, maybe a little dark, but much better and cheaper than printing with my printer. The website still shows 26 cents, so it must be B&M only.

Sweet! How should you take them in? On disk? Burned on CD? Or can they transfer direct from memory card in the store?

Oh, if we have it in our local Walmart, then maybe I don't have to spend .40 printing from Kodak. :) Thanx!

This sounds great (if not local). Too bad it's B&M only. Hmm, I guess I could go in with a 512MB Compact Flash and ask them to print the whole thing :)

Has anyone here done a poor mans comparison of the better on-line printing places (and compared to WallyWorld/Costco)? It would be interesting to see which places people would print "keeper" photos. I'm thinking the holidays are coming up and I need to print up photos of the little one to send to relatives!

My local Walmart charge .46 cents here so I just use their online printing service which they charge .26 cents here and the prints are very nice comparing to shutterfly.

gof: I've printed a LOT of digital pictures at a LOT of different places. My unscientific review found that the best quality, by far, came from Ofoto. But they are also, by far, the most expensive, even when they have coupons.

Kodak's Picture Center is cheaper, especially when you go through a "partner" like Costco (which offers 25% off). However, even though Kodak now owns Ofoto, they are still processing digital prints separately, and on different paper. The Picture Center prints tend to be much more washed out than the Ofoto prints.

I've had pretty great luck with Wal-Mart B&M printing, and (at least the store I go to) can take pictures in just about any format: Smart Media, CF, floppy, CD. I'd place the quality somewhere between Ofoto and Picture Center. I generally use this option only when I'm in a hurry.

So, for me, Ofoto is still the best. It can get really expensive, though, so I tend to use them primarily for high-quality enlargements or when I'm creating a gift for someone.

MontyBurns:

How does ofoto accept pictures? Just a web interface? What kind of files do they accept and are there any limitations in size?

Rias: With pretty much all of the services -- ofoto, shutterfly, picture center -- you can either upload the prints, or send them actual film from a camera.

Ofoto leaves the prints at maximum file size. I've noticed the picture center will more often than not reduce the size considerably (I have a 4 megapixel camera). That generally doesn't mean a problem, but I like having the prints stored at maximum size on their server so that you can crop them later. (Or opt for a 20x30 poster...)

MontyBurns:

I have a 4MP camera too (G2), and I really liked the 8x10" prints I got from Wal-Mart. How is the quality of the 16x20" and 20x30" prints from your camera? (If you tried it). At wal-mart I could bring in TIFF's on a cd, which was very convenient, but I wonder how much difference there will be in submitting jpeg (with almost no compression).

Need MORE DETAILS.
What store location?
Is this 10c price for the 'second set' of prints or REPRINTS?
Is there a flyer or advertisement someone can provide?

My nearby Walmart in Marlton NJ (and I assume Berlin NJ as well) is still 29c for prints and 10c for the second set.

I was just @ the Batavia, NY Wal-Mart yesterday and they didn't have any special for .10/print :(

And for you Sony owners, better burn 'em to disc or put 'em on a froppy (yah, riiiiiiiiiiiiiight). No slot for Memory Sticks. I asked the gal if they had something special for them. She pointed at the card reader slot and I said, "No.... it won't fit that."
"But people have been putting cards in there..."

*sigh*
MoRoNs!
So know what you're doing 'fore you go in. They sure as heck don't.
Sony's a wash, I know that.
Ev'thing else looks like it should be ok.

I called my local Walmart (NJ) and they said that it's 29 cents. They do take SmartMedia, Compact Flash, floppy disk or CD. It's 1 to 1-1/2 hour processing (Fuji processing). 5x7s got expensive (close to 2 bucks).

Hi,

The DIY photo printing machine at my local Wal-mart seems to expect all the image files in the root directory of the disc, at least in the case of a floppy. If the images are in a sub-directory under root, it goes in a loop trying to read the disc. I've been meaning to try a CD, but never got around to it. Wal-mart.com does not have this problem and has been cheaper too. I really wish we could find a 10c print deal! My local WM charges 48c for 4x6.

OT: What's with the slowwww response in the AT forums since yesterday? Server trouble? Anybodyelse seeing this? I am using link.

Just had several pics printed at Costco, got both 6x4s and 8x10. Very impressed. The 8x10 only cost $2 and look fantastic!

The only problem was that I requested that they not crop the photo's, that I wanted white along the horizontal sides, but the blew up the image anyway. I pointed out the error, and they printed up a replacement while I waited.

Very impressed with the quality.

BTW The images were taken with a 2meg Canon s110.

So are these really "do it yourself"? Someone mentioned an hour processing time. I just wondered if you gave them the files and they printed them, or you did it yourself without the employees seeing your files.

Wow... very good price!!! I thought Dotphoto.com has great price. I was thinking to buy the bulk package for 400 4"x6" Prints for $69.95 (17.5¢ Each).

Very cool. And I've never even seen 6x4's sold anywhere. I've only been able to come up with 4x6's and my darn portrait shots are always sideways! :frown::p
