People hating on yugo have obviously never driven any of the other eastern cars, like wartburg. plastic and two stroke, ffs.

The Yugo was a colossal bomb in every sense of the word, and Zastava's Kragujevac factory (suspected of making weapons and military vehicles) was itself bombed by NATO forces during a Kosovo air-raid, categorically ending its car-manufacturing days.
Not suspected, the company started out as an arms manufacturer but diversified into cars. It was bombed, but they still make cars and guns. The level of wrong in this statement is article killing.

They kept making yugos until 2008. Now they make fiat punto under partnership.

and also iveco trucks. (I guess this is "suspected military vehicles").

1980 Oldsmobile. First they assembled the spare and the jack then, they built the rest of the car around it. Once you took out the spare, it NEVER went back. It also came from the factory with bad camber on the wheels and burned through rubber like nothing you've ever seen.

I remember the Citation had a bunch of bad catalytic converters go out and they'd get so hot, restricted exhaust would choke the engine off. So, you pull over and the converter would be glowing cherry red.

I'd love to have an Edsel. They're funky, sweet looking cars.

That may be but for this article not to include it considering that the Edsel is the epitome of automotive failure is a major oversight.

The name Edsel defines what automotive failure is.

I meant that redesign; the Mustang itself is no failure.

like I said, the fox body mustangs were no failure, production lasted until 93, 14 years and by the the time the next model came along in 94, they were still selling fairly well.

Well - this thread by definition is a personal preference-type of thread.

I found that body style to be very unattractive. As far as I'm concerned they could have just skipped from 1973 to 2005.

That's not as bad as the Maserati BiTurbo of the same era. It would fill its cats full of fuel with a predictable ending.

All early '80's cars had the "feedback" carb., the primitive computers tried to adjust fuel delivery by constantly moving the metering rods via a solenoid and it worked poorly, as soon as FI became practical manufacturers dumped them (carbs) as quickly as possible..

Heh, my father in law has a yellow Chevy SSR just like the one they show in that link. Ya, its impractical and an oddball, but there are a lot of cars over the years that could be considered just as impractical.

It's only quite recently they stopped making that stupid fvcking thing.

How come nobody's made a proper enclosed trike? There's nothing wrong with the concept, and it's an awesome idea for fuel economy, but that Robin couldn't have done things more wrong if they tried. Maybe square wheels, but at least it would be safer :^D

The Lada, perhaps?

Pretty much speaks for itself.

Didn't know the DeLorean was gonna be produced here initially.
NO it was the dream car for many in communist countries. It was successfully produced for many decades and it was exported to North America.

The Cadillac Cimarron was an even bigger piece of shit than the Seville... put that on your list instead.

That said, I kinda liked the Jaguar X-Type. It was comfy, and the 3 liter V6 had decent power.

I really liked the X-Type also. Loved how it drove and the interior quality. The air con was uber loud though to the design of the outlets it seemed.

My parents actually considered getting a Catera back in 1997, but went with a Lexus ES300 instead. My mom still drives it.

I'd like to toss the Smart Fortwo into the ring. Underpowered, wonky transmission, rough ride, poor visability, and overpriced. I'm puzzled about the allure of this thing. It's priced the same as much bigger subcompacts. It's requirement of expensive premium gas negates the advantages of fuel economy. It's just not a practical vehicle.

Which one's the Fortwo? I was just checking out their site, and the car doesn't look /too/ bad. They have some interesting design concepts. My main complaint is the gas mileage. It isn't much better than a Civic, and there's a lot of compromises in usable size, stability, and so on...

Getting a Smart car just makes no damn sense, though. There are other new cars that are cheaper AND roomier and STILL get better gas mileage as that thing.
