10.6.6 is out

You should know where to find it, but here is the 10.6.6 combo link for the lazy.

Non-combo 10.6.6 link

Description of 10.6.6

What's included?

The Mac App Store, a new application you'll find in the Dock, includes the following features:

* Discover Mac apps: Browse featured apps, top charts, and categories, or search for something specific.
* Buy and install: Easily purchase apps with your iTunes account. Apps install in one step and are quickly available from the Dock.
* App updates: The Mac App Store keeps track of all your purchased apps and notifies you when free updates are available.

Additional improvements

* For information about the security content of this update, please visit: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.
* Includes all the improvements in the previous 10.6.1, 10.6.2, 10.6.3, 10.6.4 and 10.6.5 updates.
* Addresses a cropping issue with some postscript printing in landscape page orientation.
* Resolves an issue with some Macs (that have in ATI graphics card) in which the mouse pointer movement could become erratic if an external DVI display is connected.

P.S. The combo update (which most people don't need) lands at well over 1 GB! So, who here will have the fastest download? 😉

The regular update is 144 MB.

Is 10.6.6 just an update for installation of the Mac App Store?
No.

"The Mac OS X 10.6.6 Update... includes general operating system fixes that enhances the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac."

I'm hoping for an update to fix the external monitor compatibility issue. 10.6.5 killed support for my Dell monitor. I just get a blank screen. Other people have flickering problems. Downgrading to 10.6.4 solves the problem. (I checked.)

However, the description isn't working yet so I don't know if this is addressed, and I can't check until I get home after work.

The 10.6.6 description still isn't working but the Mac sites are reporting that it fixes:

1) Mouse pointer flickering on Macs with ATI GPUs and external DVI monitors. Hopefully it fixes my problem too, as I have an ATI GPU and external DVI monitor (but my problem isn't a flickering mouse pointer).

2) Cropping issues for postscript printing in landscape mode.

Hi,

I will be very interested to hear if your external monitor works after upgrading to 10.6.6. I bought a new iMAC in the fall and it shipped with 10.6.4. I plugged in my SAMSUNG SynMaster 225BW external monitor and everything worked as expected. I then upgraded to 10.6.5 and lost the monitor completely. OS X recognized a second monitor was attached but the monitor itself reported no signal. I'm using Mini-Display Port to DVI connection. Since I'm still at 10.6.4 I will need to download the 1GB combo update, do a timecapsule backup etc etc and I'm afraid I'll jump out the window if afterward I discover the monitor issue has not been addressed. Good Luck! 🙂

Combo is a roll up, you can install no matter what revision of 10.6 you're running. Non-combo is only for those already at 10.6.5

Also, for the people having the external display issue? How is it connected to the Mac? I'm running 10.6.5 with an external display (upgraded from 10.6.4) and I never had any issues. Are you using the standard display miniport with an adapter or are you using a USB adapter?

hmm i wonder if they fixed the 10.6.5 superdrive firmware bug -

the old macbook aluminum (late 2008) have a noisy dvd-rom that is fixed by superdrive firmware 3.0 - it just fails to apply on 10.6.5 - solution is to load 10.5.5 and apply. which is a PITA - so this patch shows up every time you software update and fails.

Took 9 mins to download. I couldn't max out the download speed though, I guess because of the serving end, or else the bazillion people downloading it at the same time.

FRACK!!!!!! PISS ME RIGHT OFF.

10.6.6 doesn't fix it. My 24" Dell DELL2407WFPHC still doesn't work. Worked fine in 10.6.4, but 10.6.5 killed it.

I've already sent the bug report for 10.6.6. I would suggest you do the same with your Samsung.

Only is an issue with certain recent Macs which have ATI graphics IIRC. I am using a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter --> HDMI cable --> DVI adapter. Worked fine in 10.6.4 with the exact same hardware. Upgrade to 10.6.5 and it stops working. Reinstall 10.6.5 combo and it still doesn't work. Boot to an external disc with 10.6.4 on it and it works fine again. Install 10.6.6 and it still doesn't work. Definitely a software issue.

This is with an iMac Core i7 2.93 GHz with Radeon HD 5750.

It works fine in 10.6.5 on my 13" MacBook Pro though. That is a 2009 model, with Geforce 9400M.

This is what really annoys me about Apple. They have a tendency to screw up really, really, really royally at times, and this is just one example.

I know I can't complain because I'm on a hackintosh, but 10.6.5 royally messed up a bunch of nVidia cards (8000 and 9000 series) with DVI-HDMI adapters. 10.6.4 works great on my 9800 GTX + DVI/HDMI adapter to my HDTV. 10.6.5 killed it and now I run VGA (sigh).

10.6.6 also doesn't work. Oh well, I did get this card for $20 so I might sell it and go with a newer one.

Thank you for posting your results and I feel your pain. I have also reported my issue at the Apple BugReporter site.Hopefully they will come out with a rev with the fix before Lion...
