hey i was gonna use the sleep kernel, but heard that our boards sleeps with vanilla...

Yeah the guy on Insanely who did a retail install has a vanilla kernel...when I tried it, restart/shutdown didn't work for me. I will try with 10.5.4 this week though and let you know!
 
My MBP is running 10.6, so no updating there. Trying to install 10.5.3 with the Combo Update broke my Hackintosh last month (Even though I was running a vanilla kernel), so I think I'll wait for the Kalyway release before updating my desktop.
