again, how could it be a WoW expansion, if it shows Starcraft characters? the WoW expansion is set for unveiling at BlizzCon. tomorrow, they'd be jumping the gun.

Since WoW is so popular, maybe they're tapping into another 1/3 of their fanbase with WoS aka World of Starcraft

Very interesting... refresh and you can see both Warcraft and Starcraft stuff.

And it looks like it's going to have something to do with all of Blizzard's games, from this thread.

I'm guessing it has something to do with a ladder system reset or overhaul for SC/WC3.
If it was a new game announcement it would have been up for more than a day in advance, and on Blizzard's main site, not battle.net. It obviously is something specifically concerning b.net.

I would love for it to be something huge, like a new game, but I don't think it will be anything nearly as significant as that.

The last time Blizzard did something like this, they announced Starcraft: Ghost and dissapointed me a lot. Since all of the character's eyes have the Starcraft wireframe orb inside of them, it's probably just going to be some more news on that horrible game. :(

also, why isn't blizzard.com doing anything wacky; the images are just on battle.net. something multiplayer related?

Thing is, this is on Battle.net, not on Blizzard.com... I'm thinking it's going to be a big announcement for their multiplayer service.

This is from gamespot, still up in the air on what it will be.

Blizzcon, unveiled tomorrow?
Gamers will be able to get their hands-on time expansion for mega-popular MMORPG; Teaser on battle.net portends big news tomorrow.
If you visited battle.net today, you were in for a surprise. The site is sporting a splash page which bears the numbers "10 7 2005," which presumably means October 7, 2005--i.e. tomorrow. Behind the numbers is a rotating close-up of the left eye of several creatures from World of Warcraft, including an orc, an undead, and a night elf. Given the aura of grandeur the splash page presents, the prevailing opinion is that the still-untitled-but-confirmed expansion to World of Warcraft will be announced tomorrow.

However, two other creatures featured on the page raise the possibility that opinion could be wrong. One looks like a gnome from World of Warcraft, but could also be a Terran from Starcraft. Another resembled both a Starcraft Hydralisk or one of the dragons current menacing WoW denizens.

Whatever is announced tomorrow, one thing is certain about the World of Warcraft expansion--it will be playable at Blizzcon, Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming expo. On its Web site this week, Blizzard confirmed attendees of its annual event, which will be held October 28-29 at the Anaheim Convention Center, will be able to get their mitts on the first expansion to the wildly popular massively multiplayer role-playing game.
