I happen to have $10,000 sitting in my checking that I will need on the first of January. Until then, I'd like to put it in some kind of ING Direct... but... I already have an ING direct account, I don't have this checking account linked to ING, and I don't feel like mailing them a check.

Is there another online savings account that offers competitive interest that I could put the money in for a month, and that I can open up online and add "links" online without mailing a check in?

Thanks,
Matt

Yes, there are places. HSBC and Emigrant Direct for example. Either one pays right near 5%. But they can be trouble to setup, and with just 1 month, you will be getting less than $40 of interest (minus any fees for early withdrawing). Heck, if you have to mail in a check or go through a long verification process, and give yourself a week to be certain you have the funds back in time, you'll only have half a month of interest (~$20). Is it worth the hassle?

Why don't you just deposit in a local B&M bank? Over a short month, the difference in interest would be minimal.

Mail it to me. I am top official in Nigerian government, and will use this to move $10,300,000.00 (Ten Million Three Hundred Thousand US Dollars) into your personal account, of which you may keep 20%. Please be assured that this transaction is 100% safe and legal.
