THE GOVT!!!!

sorry just venting this is not a new thing we get this every year (resigning bonus) but to take home $5600
from $10,000 is pretty ridiculous. The federal, social scecurity and state tax pretty much took half of what
I made.

It wouldnt be so bad but when I think that my money is paying for Mr. Bush's war makes me sick.

End of rant.

I don't know about you, but I pay a hell of a lot more money in Social Security taxes than I do in federal taxes.

It's going to "his" war?

Lets be honest, if you had made the same money with say Al Gore in power you'd still have lost just about the same amount of money.

The only difference is that it would have been spent on some minority cause-of-the-day instead of the war ;)

Sounds likie a better situation however I seriously doubt the Republicans in Congress would have stood by while he tried to help those who would never vote Republican.

I just had that exact same thing happen to me...company gives me a bonus...govt takes about half.
Did I earn that money? Yes...
Will I ever see that money again? probobly not...
The only reason they can take out so much is cause (I'm guessing here) were both single males with no dependents. Thats what my HR person told me at least cause even she was like WTF when she saw how much was taken out. I'm thinking of adopting a kid or three just to make sure a better % of my money that I EARN comes back to me. Our system is so screwed up, I truely do thing Forbes' flat tax thing was a great idea and its too bad it wasn't looked into more ever. So long as this country keeps up with this penalizing people who aren't married or have kids or are male its going to make living here harder and harder.

Flat tax penalizes people that don't work as hard as you. We couldn't have that.

I see your view as the minority.
Not saying its wrong, but its certainly NOT the prevailing viewpoint of the war.

Flat tax would ruin any standard of living we had. It would be, in a word, horrible.

I'm tired, so I might be misreading your post, but: My comment was not meant as a pro or anti war type comment. Just pointing out how similar the republicans can be to the democrats. The democrats give our money to people willy-nilly, the republicans give our money to other people willy-nilly.

My statement wasnt trying to imply anything. i was simply saying, most think giving money as handouts to people within America is somehow intrinsically a good thing regardless of what they do with it or whether or not they need it, whereas giving money to people in other countries who have been liberated from a tyrant and may need the money if someone regarded as intrinsically bad regardless of why they may need it.

Very few people would even mention Iraqi's as being a monirity deserving of American money in any way shape or form. Least, thats how I read your post. It strikes me as someone thats somehow very calm, level headed and composed.... Rather a scary site on ATOT truth be told.....

I'm approaching that magical 24 hours of no sleep (after a night of fairly heavy drinking  ), so that would explain my post. :p

I think helping out Americans with that money would be better than the war in Iraq though.

But even hinting at the fact that helping to liberate an oppressed people over helping the trash of America (And thats a generalization. Some people DO need those Fed handouts" would be considered the greatest of betrayals to America.

Wow you're an idiot. You think people who have kids are better off financially because they have less taken out in taxes? Do you realize that the money they spend on supporting their kids every year FAR outweighs the amount they get back in taxes?

I think on bonuses you end up paying for all the social security taxes
where on your regular paycheck your employer usually pays half of them.

Better than a kick in the butt but it sure does shrink the final payout. :)

An oppressed people who chose not to liberate themselves? An oppressed people who will not turn in those who are remnants of the Baathist party unless there is a large reward behind it? An oppressed people whose army won't take up arms against the insurgents? An oppressed people who think of us as invaders instead of liberators?

the bonus tax isnt bush's fault. clinton is the one who got it passed. you get taxed about 40-45% on any monetary bonuses from work

i dont understand.. what exactly makes you think that taxes would be lower with Kerry or Gore in office?
but that does seem a bit high... i know two guys that recently got bonuses from FedEx
one got a 13500 bonus and got to keep about 10000 of it.. the other got about 8500 and got to keep about 5500 of it...

I have had two freinds come back from Iraq and they both said the same thing THE MAJORITY of Iraqis are glad they are there. Of course that does not make good news. They were also were boith pretty upset at the way that they were being portrayed in the media. Both of them did not see biut a few people that thought they should not be there and to anyone who has served ion the military knows that there are always people who feel they got the shaft by Volunteering for the military

And it was easy to pass due to the fact that bonuses aren't like a pay check that you earn.
