I just got an A7V133 mobo.
I plan to buy a new cpu as well but wondering if a Tbird 1Ghz is a good choice...if i want to configure as 10.0(multiplier) x 133mhz (fsb) = 1.33Ghz....
POSSIBLE??
Has anyone achieve this ??

THx

You will need a VERY good HS/F though, to dissapate all of the heat that the cpu will give out at those mhz's.

I am not greedy,..so 1.33Ghz is enough for me.

So..dingdong, 10.0 x 133mhz is possible?? r u sure the cpu can handle it???
And is heat an issue here???

well...i am not an expert on cpu fans...
so..7.5x133=1Ghz, 8.0x133=1.07Ghz, 8.5x133=1.13Ghz, 9.0x133=1.2Ghz...
Which of the above configuration DON'T require serious cooling..???

thx!

I have my TB 1GHz running at 1350 (10x135) on a Asus AV7133 without any problems. I'm using a FOP38 with Artic silver2, I would post my temps but since the Asus board has a odd temp sensor, I think the temps are wrong.....I mean it can be 70F in my room but the case temp is 85F+ and thats with the cover off and a 120mm fan blowing on the FOP38....

I think I might go for 1.4Ghz (10.5x133) soon.....

tea217,
Are you planning on buying a guaranteed 1.0@1.33ghz cpu? The reason I ask is not many 1.0ghz Tbirds will run at 1.33ghz. You either need to look for a specific code (i.e AXIA) on the cpu or get a guaranteed cpu. overclockers.com has a very good article on the Tbird codes. Scroll down a page or two and look for the title "3/13/01 - Codes Matter Here". My brother-in-law bought 2 1.0ghz Tbirds and both would only do in the 1.1 - 1.2ghz range. Just FYI.

Most do up to 1.2, 1333 is an exceptional chip, not the norm.

Most of the previous chips I had gotten, and it's been many, fell at 1200-1250 range. I recently got a batch of AXIA code, and 7 out of 10 of those did 1.5GHz. The next I received were AVIA code, and so far all of them are 1.4GHz, and some 1.45, even some booting windows over 1.5GHz. None, however, will pass the stability tests at 1.5GHz with air cooling.

Look at the code on your chip. That should give you some idea.

Instigator,
i didn't know oc can be so difficult...sigh,..i am kinda a newbie here.

so would 9.0 x 133 = 1.2Ghz...do?? and pls.. recommend me a cpu fan and a site that sells it..
1.2Ghz should be enough for me.

BTW..what does FYI stand for??

Tea217,

FYI(For Your Information). I heard that the FOP32 and FOP38 are both very good but the FOP38 has a very loud fan. You can look these up at coolerguys.com. I'm not sure if they were the cheapest but if you look through the threads, you can find other links to sites that sell them. I think the lowest I saw the FOP32 was for like $19+s&h.

Good luck with your OC.

Also, I've never bought a CPU from Compuwiz but I hear he's awesome to trade with. If you're looking for a guaranteed 1G TBird, go with him and save yourself the trouble of trying to find a good TBird to OC.

tea217,
joeblo123 is right. compuwiz1 is very good person to talk to about getting guaranteed cpu from. His prices are very reasonable and he is cool guy. Good places to get heat sinks from are:

Inflow Direct
Plycon
2CoolTek

Here are some excellent heat sinks:

Taisol CGK742092 (this is the one I will be getting in a month)
GlobalWin FOP32-1 (a little loud, but not too bad)
Alpha PAL6035 (excellent heat sink)

Also one thing you'll learn about overclocking.....it's never enough! ;) Just kidding...kind of. 1.2ghz should be more than plenty.

Now, i am deciding should i get the Alpha PEP66T or the Alpha PAL6035MFC!~
Which one is better??

BTW.. i went to coolerguys.com,...do they ship their products to canada??

Possible?
Yes.
Likely?
No.

At the very least your going to have to have extremely good cooling and a damn good overclocking processor.
Most 1.2GHz T-Birds will hit 1.33 with air cooling but that's beyond the reaches of most 1GHz T-Birds.

With excellent air-cooling 1.2GHz or a bit higher should be feasible though.

I picked up an Asus A7V133 (rev 1.05!) last night, along with an Athlon-B 1 Ghz chip. It's a AXIA coded Week 7 chip.

I quickly had it running at 10X multiplier on the 133Mhz FSB. That gave me the 1330Mhz that you're asking about. Actually, I had 1343Mhz as my FSB ended up slightly above 133Mhz.

Today I bumped the FSB up to 140Mhz, so I'm running at 1400Mhz. So far it seems stable. It's been running for 8 hours with light use and some UT playing.

I'm not done yet, but I had other things to do and had to drop this for a bit. I'll get back to it soon and see how far I can go. I'm hoping for the 1.5Ghz, but I don't know if my RAM will do 150Mhz.

I'm quite pleased! My last system was a Duron 650 that only made it to 800 (23% overclock). Currently I'm doing a 40% overclock on this chip.

I read about that AXIA code...

but what's with the athlon-B, athlon-C...?
What do the B and C mean???

I'm pretty sure an athlon-B is factory set to run on a 100Mhz FSB (200 effective) and the athlon-C runs on a 133Mhz FSB (266 effective)
To take advantage of the 133Mhz bus, you'll need the KT133A chipset
