I'm getting low mem and registry error messages with offer to fix with $29 utility bargain. I have MS 365 subscription. Though I don't use it much, Mail stopped working or could not connect.

You have malware. My vote is backup data, burn it down, and reinstall. Otherwise, try some antivirus programs. Dunno what's good anymore. Been out of that world for awhile.

The last time I was infected with anything -- ANY THING -- it was around 1996. I worked in the US Dept of Ed. Somebody from the Asst Secretary for Management brought down a disc of data for me to process and analyze.

The disc contained the "STONED" virus. I was able to purge the system of it in about an hour or so. This kind of problem never occurred for me again -- at work there during the day, nor at my home after teaching night-school in a computer lab infected by viruses brought back from China after the holidays.

I was just very, very careful. I've been careful ever since. My departed younger brother, when he was alive and working at a resort, was using a computer that I and the fam-damn-ily built for him. He just let his prurient interests get away from him, visited an XXX site, and infected that thing to the point that I had to reformat the hard disk and reinstall all his software -- that was around 2005.

I get spam and phishing e-mails all the time. I'm damn sick and tired of going through the morning routine of purging them using the web-browser access to my e-mail accounts so they don't come into my MS Outlook Inbox. I've got to define some rules in Outlook, and otherwise compile a list of all the institutions, businesses, personal friends, political organizations, banks and so on to add to a "safe senders" list, and then divert all the other CRAP to a Junk folder.

Sooner or later, anything that comes along carrying a Trojan or virus could be mistakenly clicked and activated.

I"ve got MalwareBytes on top of Windows Defender -- they work well together. This security problem has been one of the largest drawbacks to a personal computing culture in which the machines were supposed to save us time and increase productivity.

THAT'S WHY I SUPPORT CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR THOSE GUILTY OF ALL THIS FOOLISHNESS. SHOOT 'EM IN FRONT OF THEIR FAMILIES ON CHRISTMAS DAY, I SAY!!
