Ugh that's all I can say. I had high expectations for this summer internship that started working at the beginning of the summer, boy was I wrong. They company I am working for is consolidating 5 of it's business areas into 1, and I was told that I would be in change of condensing and consolidating many of the SOP's and documents that were similar between the 5 areas. 'Consolidating' to this company means hitting 'ctrl-c' and 'ctrl-v' over and over again.

That project was supposed to take me the entire summer to complete, it took me 2 weeks. After that I've done nothing, NOTHING. It's not like I'm not doing my work, it's that they don't give me any. And I ask everyone in my group if they have anything for me to do, but they either forget or don't have anything for me. So I just sit on my ass for 8 hours and browse the limited internet I can access. I bet China has less restrictions on viewable websites. No ebay, nothing gaming related, no youtube, no fickr etc? (you get the point). Luckily I can still view ESPN and anandtech. So I bring in my mp3 player and sit online. All day. The boredom is like torture. I used to do asphalt work as a summer job and I'd much rather be doing that. (and that payed $13/hr where this pays $8/hr) I chose this job because I was tired of 14hr days in the sun. And this is a stable 40 hours a week 8-5, so weekends are open and I am able to workout everyday after work, so the scheduling is the only plus to this job.

1 week left until I go back to school, and never have to be in a cubicle again! I?m studying to be a physical therapist, so the chances of ever working in a cube are slim to nil. The only reason this internship is not related to my major is because my dad works for the company and they have a program where children of employees who are at least a junior in college can work here. So I thought it would be good to broaden my horizons. WRONG CHOICE.

Ok, my rant is over I just needed to vent some of the frustration of this terrible terrible job.

One summer I had an internship at a hospital working on their website redesign, and that went fairly well. The next year I asked if I could do another summer internship and I was told there were a number of projects for me to work on. When I get there, I find they're working on some internal app and my job was to test it out. The app is essentially a table with a couple of drop down boxes. I test every possible functionality of it in about an hour, submit a bug list, and that was it. I spent the rest of the summer looking up hardware reviews for the new computer I was going to build with my summer salary.

I would probably have taken the ashphalting job as well. But a job where you're paid to do nothing is pretty damn good too. I would have caught up on reading, brush up on some skills, and get my post count up.

Bring in some books (or eBooks, if you want to look like you're actually working on the computer).

I saw Bourne Ultimatium on opening day, 1st showing (12pm). and no, i didnt take the day off :)

it's nice that u have work ethics. but you're young. you'll learn padawan.

(and i probably made more $ in those 4 hrs (movie + lunch) that i screwed off than your entire internship.)

isnt Amerika great!

My internship is better than your internship :p

I get paid more than you get paid for doing asphalt... Man there are some times where you can say "loving the job is more important than how much you make" but you took a pay cut and its a job you hate? Sorry but it's your own fault for sticking around...

The internship that I am doing this summer is my favorite one yet, but it gets slow at times. My group is pretty small and when a person or two go out on vacation, there is basically no work for me to do. I try asking around but it takes hours for them to come up with something, and even then the work is trivial. I get paid decently though, so whatever.
