I really wanted to grab a 1TB but ended up seeing an Arc 100 480GB for $169.99 on special at Newegg a few weeks back.

That about doubles my Vertex 4 that I think I paid around $200 for a few years ago.

Just ordered the Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD thru Amazon. @ $379. Glad that's over with.... I've been thinking about this purchase for 3 weeks...sheesh...

I won't install right away. Aug/Sept when Win 10 debuts will do that... I think I get it free as I have Win 7 now. I will do clean install of OS onto empty new Samsung, then re-load everything ("The horror, the horror" )

Or, is there an alternative way?

Try Marcium Free to clone your old OS drive to the new one.

I don't think I want to transfer/move my Win 7 OS and all apps from current small SSD to the new one..........

Why not just wait, and then get Win 10 for free (which Win 7 users do, AFAIK), then fresh install of Win 10 on new big Samsung SSD, then reload all apps (yuck PITA)...........

I just received the StarTech cable so I can clone my old Intel SSD over to the new Samsung SSD... While watching the men's semi-finals tennis matches at the French Open today (starting in 10 minutes).

Any hints/tips for the process itself?

Thanks.

Wow, that was easy. I figured if it could get messed up, I'd find a way.

New SSD cloned and installed. The Samsung 'Data Migration' included software did everything. It took about @ 27 minutes to clone over 149GB from the old Intel SSD.

Awkward part is that the SSD Sabrent bracket is too small for the drive enclosure in my case. So, I temp have it attached in there with that 2-sided velcro stuff... yeah, it's nasty.

All progs seem fine, and much snappier.... News at 11.

I have done it twice with Samsung SSD's and the migration software. Both times it was very smooth and easy.

I don't think it can get easier.
