1 Stick vs. 2

I was shopping for 4GB RAM for my desktop. I was thinking 2 x 2GB and the majority come in kits of 2 sticks. Then I found a much lower price on a single stick of 4GB. Is there a performance hit for using a single stick in a dual-channel memory system? Will it even work?

it should be slower than running 2x4gb of similar memory though

The above link is somewhat old and I was wondering if there was a newer one which is more comprehensive eg more games and apps benched..
