Sorry,
I'm a newbie to cooling. So with just 1 Single Case fan, should the Case fan suck the air out or blow some air in?

thanx

I agree, I tried both ways & suck on my PC was better for case cooling, but blow made a big difference in CPU temperature going right down.

This may be obvious, but the case fan that is blowing into the case should be at the bottom front.....and the power supply blowing out of the case at the back.

Are you guys sure? I mean, I have always heard that if you have 1 fan then you should put it in the back and have it blowing out. Wouldn't this be better since it is right by the CPU and would create more airflow in that area? Atleast it is right by my Duron on my Abit KT7, I don't know about other mobos.

Also, I think I will be getting another case fan (for a grand total of 2). Should I get a 80mm(the size I have now), or should I get the biggest possible(like 120mm)?

haha i saw blow out! :)
well it really depends on where you can place the fans.
generally blow-out fans are placed in the back and have good air movement, whereas those fans that are sometimes at the front of cases are pretty feckless cause they don't move much air and cables sometimes get in the way of the little air that they do blow.

just try one in first. check your temps, run some tests, check temps again.
flip the fan and repeat the test and temp checks.

whichever is lower is your answer- viola!

Most people blow in because this creates high-pressure inside case, and no dust gets sucked in from little creases and holes.

LOL

Well the dust just comes in though the fan vents....the air coming in will bring dust no matter whether in holes or through fan grill...

I think its blow out ... and suck in ..

because of the phrase ... Blow it out yer ar$e ehh you get the picture

nobody ever says blow it in your ar$e

ohh BTW

I think you should get one for the front and one for the back ... you can pick em up for like 10 bucks or something .. and they really help ..

im currently running with 2 intake (one front one blowhole )and 2 output 80mm fans (back of case) and the one with my PS (another 80mm at back) and then 2 system coolers that take up a PCI or ISA slot ..

my system is a full tower with 5 Hard drives (2 full hight scsi) and overclocked Duron .. it makes tons of heat but the good airflow keeps the case temp about 5deg F above room temp .. and my CPU temp is another 20 to 25 deg F above that ..

If you have a opening at the lower front part of the case then I would go with putting the single fan you have next to power supply to help blow out air. The hottest part of the case will be near the top so you want to get rid of the air around there as fast as you can.

Aiight,
I know how, I have to make it. The fan was now 2 days blow in, the temperature, was the same like without fan. Then, I changed direction, to suck the air out. Hell yeah, it's now 5 degrees cooler, both, CPU and Case. Will a Sunon 80mm, will drop the temp much more?

It is my opinion that you should have both intake and exhaust. (Besides the power supply fan which is designed to cool the power supply, and not really exhaust case air well unless you have one like the dual fan Enermax) There has been much debate on the subject, but out of the many cases that I have modded, the best setup for me at least has been:

1 120mm lower front intake fan (smaller if your case will not allow it)
1 120mm top blowhole. (Located on the top of the case in the rear for a full tower, in the middle if mid tower)

I tape all other vents shut, and do have a dual fan 450 watt Enermax that has a bottom fan directly above my Alpha that draws the exhausted heat from the CPU (Fan is set the way that Alpha designed it, drawing through the heatsink, not against it) up and out of the Enermax. The cooling speaks for it's self. My internal case temperature as I type this is 74.2F with my room AC on medium.
I also have 2 hard drive coolers that have dual fans with vented 5.25" bay covers.

Well lets take a poll. Would you all rather suck or would you all rather blow? That is the question.

does your case only have 1 spot for a fan???? if so, and its at the bottom... blow in and hopefully the ps fan is blowing out. Hopefully you have at least 2 fan locations... 1 at the bottom (blowing in) and 1 behind the cpu (blowing out).

In at the bottom

out at the top (since the warm air rises

if you have the 2 locations..just buy another fan... outpost.com has 'em cheap with free overnite shipping (4.95 I think)

If you don't mind the noise, go for an ADDA 50CFM 80mm to help you move air inside the case.

A correct answer depends on the case in question. Many cases have very restrictive front bezels, but lots of vents in the side and lower back. The Enlight 7237 is a good example. If you only have one fan, mounting it in the back blowing out will give superior results.

Some other cases are just the opposite, I'm sure. Only trial and error will reveal the truth for any particular situation.

The best advice I or anyone can offer to Newbies is to have 2 case fans, one blowing in down low in the front, and another blowing out behind the processor in the back. Be sure to buy a case with these features. Also, buy a fan that fits your case. You can get into hacking, chopping, cutting and sawing down the road if you want to.

Pretty much a moot point for me, anymore. I swear that my Antec sx1030 would keep everything nice and cool with no fans at all, but I'm not going to try it.
