1 Series M Coupe official teaser vid

Boob apron? LOL.

It's intriguing, their goal is supposedly to make an "affordable" M car but this thing is undoubtedly going to start north of 40K and knowing BMW it'll probably be light on options at that price.

Who cares about options? This is most likely going to be the most focused M car since the E30 M3 started it all off. I didn't see e46 CSL owners complaining about the fact the trunk was useless, or that it didn't have sat nav.

It will probably starts around $48k or $10k less than the M3, weight around 3600lbs, and perform close to a 2011 V6 Mustang.

Uh... at least you're close on the price. 😉 I'm thinking around 50K. I think MSRP on my 09 135i was 44K.

The 135i is 3372lbs... the 1M has at least a carbon fiber roof and I'm sure they've done more weight shedding than that. It's a modified N54 engine that will probably be rated at around 350HP (Up from the 300 underrated HP in the 135i). And the current 135i already out performs the 11 V6 Mustang - at least by a quick google search of 0-60 times. So you know this will too.

They've also confirmed a 6MT only for at least the first year or 2 so no DCT yet. Should be a very good drivers car.

Exactly...the less options...the better. I could see this being my next car. Can't wait to drive one.

I'm an avowed fan of BMW, but good lord the 1 series looks just a little wrong. Hopefully the M clothing fixes that somewhat. I'm sure it's gonna be a treat to drive, funny how it slots in neatly between the Mustang V6 and GT, though I really doubt too many people would cross-shop these things. I'd probably go GT (or even V6 Mustang) myself, given the $ and all of that, but it's cool to see this finally happening. When the SC kits start showing up for the V6 Mustang, it's really going to get interesting. Getting Dinan stuff for BMW is $$$$.

What? :hmm:
The 135i does 0-60 in 4.7 consistently. It was rated from BMW at 5.2 seconds. Of course they also said it was 300HP when stock dynos show it's probably closer to ~330HP.

If the same holds true for the 1M then a 4.7 rating may mean 4.2 real world.

the 135i looks like a potbelly pig from a side profile. I hope they fix that. Is it gonna be a twin turbo or did they switch to single?

That was one of my points. What they quote and what the cars do in reality is often different.

The second is with regard to 'magazine racing'. If you're checking penis length, then numbers matter I guess, but an M car is greater than the sum of it's numbers.

Sure, my points were hard to read, but I could hardly bring myself to be civil initially. I think I've managed it now, though. 😀

for that price, there better be race tracks in every neighborhood and on the way to work... otherwise you're paying nearly $50k to drive a small, non-outfitted, car at 1/4 of its abilities.

I get fast, agile cars but I just don't get paying so much for so little and not even being able to use it on our streets. Hell ole wide-eyes doesn't even look good.

Anyone who wouldn't cross-shop wouldn't get a BMW 1 series. I can't see this being very successful.

I don't know why you rule out cross shopping.

Tons of people I know do exactly this. Not everyone gets a bmw because it has the badge on it, similarly, not everyone gets a Mustang because they married their first cousin.

Probably because there is likely going to be about a $20,000 price difference. People don't usually cross shop two items this expensive that have a 67% price difference. If someone is seriously considering a $50k BMW, they aren't going to be also considering a $30k Ford. The GT500 starts at $48k. If someone was cross shopping a 1 Series M and a Mustang, 99% of them would be looking at the GT500, not the GT.

OK, you changed it, but what does "non-outfitted" mean?! 😀
