I'm wondering what the best way to run my internet is. We have 4 floors. the bottom one is where the modem has to be. Then I have the router wired to the first floor. From there, I have an access point that goes up to the second, and another wire that goes to another part of the first floor that plugs into a 4 port switch. From there, we have an airport extreme plugged in and another access point plugged in
we are supposed to be getting 50 mbps through our modem as of today. I was getting about 10 at the best today when it was plugged into our router.
I'm gonna directly plug into the modem to see if i really am getting around 30 MBPS (that's what they said I really should be getting, not 50). If i am, I'm wondering why that's getting so badly reduced to 10 MBPS when its going through one router. I do understand the connection system above PROBABLY isn't the best. I am wondering how I could improve it, and what I should remove, like say, the switch and the airport extreme base station? That is one of my fraternity brother's, and he wasn't getting internet to his mac pro even from the access point very close to his room, so he had to use that. But if that's part of what is killing our internet, i'll have him unplug it and figure out another way.
I live in a fraternity house with about 20 other guys. We don't have the money to wire the house, so a router with access points system is what will fit our budget.
Just wondering what some of you thought.
