1 Raptor 74GB vs 2 Seagate 80GB 7200 rpm SATA in Raid 0

This is my first post here and would like some insight on what HD I should buy for my newest system. My primary use for this computer will be for gaming and doing school work. This will be my only drives and I don't forsee buying another drive for this system....any help would be greatly apreciated.

Gaming and school work??? IF you think your school work is important I would go with the Raptor. RAID 0 is over rated IMO.

Welcome to the forums. I am assuming by RAID 0 setup you are looking for the best performance. I would say the Raptor 74 gig version would blow the 2 Seagates out of the water.

definitely

Well, since you already have a 80gig seagate, go for the raptor. It'll give you more performance and you'll have about the same storage size.

thanks for the replies so far...I'm so close to ordering the Raptor from new egg for the price of 185.00 w/a $20 rebate...what do you all think?

Go with the raptor, its a pretty good deal (although the price drop on newegg and on the WD site itself indicate they're dumping stock or reading to release a new product).

Lol at some point you need to just give up and say you're going to upgrade now and forget about all the tantalizing technology a few months ahead otherwise you'll be stuck in indecision FOREVERRRR...

Do you think I will REALLY notice a huge performance increase from my current 80GB HD to the Raptor 74GB in real world numbers? Seeing some of my system specs anything I could upgrade to increase performance....

Yes you will notice a real world difference, escpecially in loading time. Just note since the Raptor is a 10K drive they are a bit noisy. Just if gaming is your thing I would invest in a new video card. For the price you might be able to find a 128 meg 9800 pro.
