QUESTION 1
I'm building a NEW system and I wondering How many IDE devices can I have on 1 system if I have my 2 IDE controllers on my motherboard and I add a Promise Ultra 66 PCI controller to it. Does that mean I can have up to 8 devices on my machine? If not, then what would be my maximum amount of IDE devices?

Here's what I want to fit on it:

3 Maxtor IDE Hardrives
1 Plextor 12/10/32 CD Burner
1 DVD-Rom
1 Zip Drive

Total = 6devices.

QUESTION 2
Has anyone ever put more than 4 IDE devices on their computer before? if yes, what was your setup?

:confused:

Yes, but get ready for a serious "IRQ conflict solving session" since you'll need 3 IRQs for your IDE devices...

Yes 8 devices. I have that setup 1 pair of IDE controllers onboard and one Promise ATA66 controller. I had no problems what so ever.

AoD ;)

I am currently running 5 IDE devices with the help of a Promise controller, (3 hard drives, 1 DVD, 1 CD burner). I have had no problems! I did not have any IRQ problems, but with this configuration it will take 3 IRQ's, as 3615buck already mentioned. :)
