i noticed it says "no pop ups"

wouldn't that bring down the revenue of anandtech and make the bandwidth lag even worse? why not just keep the tiny banner adds so you can say that you are helping anandtech even MORE by keeping the adds which pay the measly 1 cent per 100 view or whatever :)

bandwidth costs money
money comes from subscribers and banners
banners are noticable but not distracting
bandwidth would be pretty cool ;)

If I'm on a 56k and I'm paying for a subscription, the last thing I want is any % of the bandwidth taken up by frickin' ad banners. Ad revenue isn't the cash cow you might think it is.

One of my reasons for subscribing was to say buh-bye to the banners. I'd have that much -less- of a reason to subscribe if they returned.

Banners USE bandwith. Which defeats the purpose of subscribing. And like you said - 1 cent per 100 views - it generates a lot more money having those 100 people subscribe than not subscribing and clicking banners. And people subscribe to get rid of the annoying banners, not have them still there

ok well i get the point of it causing the lag so i guess this was a stupid question. in responce to you saying the banner makes up lag which will just cause more problem, that is not true, i right clicked on the banner to see it's location and here it is:
http://realmedia-a800.d4p.net/6/800...Creatives/OasDefault/2002PSA/adc_nfh_ban1.gif

it is not hosted by anandtech, but it's still 9kb so that's like 4 seconds of lag for the 56ker, sorry i asked. never thought that maybe just maybe it's actually the 56k guys who are most likely to be the subscribers
