Greg Oden , the Portland Trail Blazers' No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, will miss the 2007-2008 season after knee surgery on Thursday, two league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Oden, the 7-footer out of Ohio State, underwent exploratory surgery on his right knee on Thursday in Vancouver. The extent of the damage was not immediately clear, but Oden, one of the most celebrated young players in years, will be lost for the season.

The Blazers are expected to make an announcement shortly.

Wow...that sucks. I remember reading a few days back about something wrong with his knee and they might do some minor surgery. not out for the season surgery.

edit: he looks 40, maybe he has 40 year old knees too?

Damn Seattle must be real glad that they have Durant. I felt all along that Durant was without question the best player in the draft, this kid is going to be the next big superstar in this league.

Probably a good thing for him actually. When he comes back next year, everyone will be talking about the next #1 draft pick.

It would be kind of funny if the Trailblazers end up with the #1 pick again because of this. Would potentially be on par with the Magic getting the #1 pick two years in a row.

and its micro fracture surgery. so after a year, he will probably need another year to be back to the level he was at before. 2 years...

Ouch, microfracture. Oden could be heading for one short, injury plagued career.

The area of injury was not large and we were able to treat it with micro fracture, which stimulates the growth of cartilage. There are things about this that are positive for Greg. First of all he is young. The area where the damage was is small and the rest of his knee looked normal. All those are good signs for a complete recovery from micro fracture surgery."

Sounds like he'll be fine.

next years draft is pretty solid too. rose, mayo, love, beasley, budinger. some good ball players there.

ouch. not only will we get to see how he was going to play, but when he gets to play his first season of nba ball, hell be rusty. Hopefully the blazers werent banking too much on him. . . although he was the first draft pick.
