1 or 2 sticks of memory?

2 sticks of 512mb ram or if your planning on upgrading later to 2 gigs, get 1 gig/stick. IIRC buffered ram is used only in servers for more reliability.
 
if your motherboard supports dual channel mode, i would get the two sticks but if it doesnt i would just get the cheaper of the two
