1 or 2 CD drives?

Hi, built my first rig today, everything is going smooth so far. I have a question though, I bought a DVD/CD burner drive and right now I am using it for everything. Is this a bad idea? I should probably have a regular CD/DVD drive for all my normal needs and then just use the burner for burning right? Or does it not matter? I am just worried I guess that if I use this one as my main, I might wear it out the lifespan on burning things.

i usually use burners for writing only.

Have a cd burner - use it for cd-writing only
have a dvd-burner - use it for writing dvds only
have a dvd-rom - use it for reading cds and dvds

Using it too much lessens its life, but i dont know exactly how much.

aye. I have 2 cd drives (DVD-ROM and DVD +/- RW). I hardly take advantage of it, though. copying DVD's is just too tedious and I don't copy CD's all that often (seldom enough that turning a CD into an ISO and then burning the ISO onto the CDR isn't that tedious).

unless you keep finding yourself with a desire to copy DVD's or CD's, then 1 drive is fine :) once I get building my next rig, I'll probably use the dvd-rom drive from my main computer, since I use it so seldomly.

All you really need is that one combo drive. Don't worry about wearing it out. Drives are so cheap now that I wouldn't even worry about it.

I personally prefer 2 Opticals (Seperate IDE Channels) so's I can burn quickly on the fly

I also like to have two drives to spread out the wear and tear and to do direct copies. I don't consider $100. (DVD burner) cheap... And I agree that the Pioneer slot-load DVD players are cool.
