1 Month Old Compaq Laptop wt Win Vista Trouble

Hello,
I bought a Compaq C714NR Laptop: Pentium Dual Core 1.46 GHz, 1GB DDR2, 120GB HDD, DVDRW, WiFi, 15.4" LCD, Windows Vista Home Premium. Upgraded the 1gb memory to 2gb memory a few weeks ago and it has worked flawlessly.

A few days ago when I was firing up the laptop my little one punched a few keys on the key board as the laptop was loading up and it hasn't been the same since.

When I power the computer on. It comes up with a screen that gives me two options in a dos window:
Repair
Start in normal mode (this is a dead end and does not work)

When I choose the repair it goes to a black dos window with "windows loading files" it goes on to load files and stops half way. no error or other messages. SO I have to shut off the machine and try to redo the same on and on again.

When I tried to boot with the recovery disc it does the same thing and freezes at the same point during the "windows loading files" process. Please help me

How long are you waiting before you shut off your lappy?

I wait approx. 5 min after the progress bar on the "windows loading files" stops moving. Also when I tried booting with the recory disk I noticed that the disk stops spining after that point.
