This AM/PM inconsistency really pisses me off. Somebody needs to lose their job over this.

I don't think there is an inconsistency... after noon is PM early... past midnight is AM.

That's why I was confused in the first place... it doesn't make sense.

That's why it's better to avoid the 12AM/PM nomenclature. If you use noon and midnight then you have:
11AM
Noon
1PM
...
11PM
Midnight
1AM
???
Profit

Here's what NIST had to say.

It gets especially confusing as to which day midnight occurs on.
To avoid confusion, I always say 11:59 PM on <DATE>.

AM = Ante Meridian
PM = Post Meridian

Ante = Before
Post = After
Meridian = Noon

I think I have provided enough information to gather the answer.

Why doesn't it make sense? When you start a stopwatch, it starts at 0. Instead of saying 0 oclock, then 1, then 2, then 3, we just replace 0 with 12. When you get to 1 oclock, 1 hour has passed. When you get to 12 o'clock, 12 hours have passed, half a day has bassed. Then you switch am/pm. Switching at 1 would make less sense.

Well, this questions is obvious and notfred should and is being appropriately roasted for it :)
But in general, I use 24 clock when I can get away with it.

Because 0 is less than 1 and 12 is greater than 1. It would make sense with 0, it doesn't make sense with 12.
