1 min delay after resuming from password protected screen saver

Hey guys, for some reason, I get almost exactly a 1 min delay after resuming from a basic XP screensaver as soon as I hit enter after entering my password. It stays in a blank screen for that period and finally resumes with my desktop icons etc.

The system is a 1.6ghz duron with 256mb and has a fresh XP installation. All I've done is install Office XP and copied my data to my docs. There are no spyware, no virii and the system has a manually assigned IP address. No network drives mounted either.

My screensaver settings are to enter the screensaver after 1 min of inactivity and to request a password upon resume. I can have apps open or everything closed. No difference.

It's really annoying and I've been able to reproduce this on another machine. Very weird and can't find any reason for this. What could be the cause?

If I have HDD power management enabled, it sometimes takes 10-15s for drives to spinup again, but, not 1minute.

Interesting. Could be:

Computer goes into screen saver. Timer hits and it tries to go into standby but fails. When you attempt to get back to desktop it's actually trying to standby and then resume... which would make sense if you need this update:

The Computer Cannot Enter Standby or Hibernate If a Direct3D-Based Screen Saver Is Running

Microsoft has released a new update for Windows XP, which addresses a rather small flaw that may prevent the computer from entering standby or hibernation mode if a Direct3D-based screen saver is running. Despite replacing two DirectX libraries and all the 3D screen savers that have been shipped with Windows XP, this update does also replace the winlogon.exe with an updated build. Download here.

You could see if disabling power management options solves the problem. If so, the above or another update probably fixes it.
