1 long continuous beep and red screen at power on!

Occasionally, when i turn the computer on it gives me one long continuous beep and a red screen. If i reset the computer it usually boots okay.
Occasionally, it will lock in windows also when running programs. No games are run on this machine.
The machine:
Amd K6-3 450
Asus p5a MoBo rev 1007
Diamond viper v330
128mb ram
generic sound card
3com nic
Any ideas? Thanks
 
Have you flashed your bios lately? Only time I've experienced the long and continuos beep was with a bios flash gone bad. But then it would not reboot. Bios then went to mb manufacturer for reprogram.
