1 keyboard/mouse 2 monitors?

It's easy. Windows XP supports multiple monitors natively. You just go to Display Properties->Settings and it shows you all display devices plugged into your computer. You click the monitor you want to be your main monitor and click the checkbox that says "Use this device as the primary monitor." Click another monitor and click the checkbox that says "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor."

You don't need to buy any software. I run three monitors side by side at work, one keyboard, one mouse. It's like one big wide desktop.

You do need to have multiple video outputs on the back of your computer. Some possible configurations:
1) onboard video + separate PCI or PCI-e video card.
2) 2 or more separate video cards
3) one video card with multiple VGA or DVI outs that supports multiple monitor -- not all of them do, even when they have multiple outs

There's also a freeware app to extend the Windows taskbar onto the other monitor... Windows doesn't handle that by itself

It looks like 2 seperate computers, not just 2 monitors ....
Go with Synergy like 0roo0roo suggests.

http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/

It's free, and it works VERY well.
I use it on my main desk to control a windows and linux box with 1 mouse and keyboard. (though you could very easily control 2 different windows boxes with 1 kb and mouse using it as well.)

It's great ... you just drag the mouse over to the other screen .... soooo seamless and efficient!

hehe yeah it was 2 comps. what is a KVM? im assuming that stands for keyboard video mouse? i think synergy is a winner, i dont want to mess with a whole lot more cords bcuz its a mess back there =[....would it disable that drag over effect in game? i dont want to be in cs and have to whip a 180 and accidently move to my other pc

It does stand for Keyboard Video Mouse.

It's a little device that switches the output of your keyboard, video, and mouse between multiple computers. I currently have 3 PC's under my desk, and switch between them with a KVM. On my particular KVM you can either hit a button on the device itself to switch computers, or hit a keystroke combination (CTRL, CTRL, Number) where number is the number of the comp i want to use.

They are a cinch to set up and use.
Newegg's KVM listings

Yes, it would be able to drag over in a game.
The best way to avoid that is to simply shut down synergy when gaming.

It's an open source program ... so there is nothing to lose when trying it.
It's free, and there is no spyware, adware, or anything else suspicious about it. No signups, No bloat.

BurnItDown, Have you ever set up Synergy so it controls both PCs at the same time with the single keyboard and mouse?

For instance: Left Screen left PC --> Right screen right PC --> Set moving the mouse up off the screen to control both left and right PCs at the same time.

Never tried that, and I really don't have a reason to try it.
One of my PC's is dual monitors and runs windows XP. The other one on the desk runs Slackware Linux and I have Xorg running on one monitor.

I imagine it would be possible .. and it could be good for some things ... just never needed it, so never tried it.

I personally just recently learned of Synergy last November.
An AT Forum member by the name oyf "sr3yas" mentioned it in THIS THREAD.
