1 Gig Athalon Question

I have a question. I just purchased a 1 Gig Athalon Boxed processor from Ubid.com for $209.00. I received it today. What is the difference between an Athalon, and a Thunderbird? This is what I have nowProcessor Speed 1000MHz (1GHz)
Level 2 Cache 256K

Thunderbirds are the socket A based chips.

all socket A Athlons are TBirds
but not all Slot A Athlons are "Classic" Athlons
There are some Slot A TBirds as well.

yes surfhead, if it has 256Kb L2 it's a Tbird You might wanna chack you got the right format though, Tbirds comes in both Slot and Socket format

Looks like my K6 III Chip, so it's the right format. Thanks.. I just wanted to make sure I didn't get duped into buying some previous version of the processor. The Box didn't have THUNDERBIRD or T-Bird on it anywhere. So I was thinking that a decent deal wasn't so decent. Thanks Again.
