1+ Ghz CPUs only for 760 boards?

Will the 1, 1.2 and 1.3 Ghz Thunderbirds be the only CPUs supported under the new 760 chipset? If so, is AMD planning on releasing lower clock speed CPUs for the 760s?

There are 1.2 SDR and 1.2DDR chips which differ by their FSB speed. I have heard that SOME 100mhzDDR chips will run 133mhzDDR if you adjust the multiplier.

edit: brainfrag.

I don't know if they will make ddr on lower clock speed chips, but my guess is AMD wants to reserve that for high end systems.

and actually the new chips (266 ddr) have quite some platforms to choose from: AMD 760, VIA KT266, and the ALi AMGiK 1. Also, the new KT133A will run 266 chips with SDR.

Hello? _All_ Athlons and Durons use DDR on the CPU bus. Most use 100 MHz DDR, while the newly-presented 1.0/133, 1.13 and 1.2/133 use 133 MHz DDR.

The 760 chipset can run either CPU bus speed. What it can't do is decouple the SDRAM bus speed from it - so when you put a 100 MHz DDR bus CPU in it, it'll run the SDRAM at 100 MHz DDR (PC1600) too. Only with a 133 MHz bus CPU will you get 133 MHz DDR (PC2100) on the SDRAM bus.

Other DDR SDRAM chipsets might offer the decoupled bus frequencies.

On the CPU bus side, it's always DDR - the existing chipsets just use normal SDR SDRAM. VIA KT133 is being replaced with KT133A for 133 MHz CPU bus capability.

also there is a new posablity to overclock with the new boards, say a 750 to 1000 by simply raiseing the fsb to 133 just like a p3e. however with the amd chips you also have the option to lower the mutiplier so that you can raise the fsb, so that 750 (7.5x100), even if it cant overclock, should still do at least 733 with 266mhz ddr bus (5.5x133) and more than likly it will overclock to at least 800.
