the 171 is not your ordinary 17" lcd, whats the response time on the planars? they dont advertise it which makes me think its not too good.

Thanks BIT for the OP, and Eddie33081 for the Viewsonic info!

I also went with the VIEWSONIC VP171B based on the specs, reviews, and way-coolness factor! (thin bezel, multiple monitor input, and pivotability)

Total was $449 shipped, no tax, and I'm trying F*tCash for the first time so hopefully I'll get another $13.50 back for $437 total!

Actually the viewsonic is a superior monitor to that 19" planar. If you dont play any fps games then most likely the planar would fit you perfectly. I believe the px version is supposed to be pretty decent but was not on sale and costs around 150-200$ more. But for an all around monitor I believe the viewsonic is perfect.

That planar has a 25-30ms response time but I have read around that there is definate ghosting while playing games. The dell 1800fp even with a similar response time has been vouched for to be without this same ghosting problem. But as far as brightness, color accuracy, gaming, and features the viewsonic seems to be the best out there. The ultra thin bezel makes the size of the actual screen (if not truly closer) seem to be that of a 19" and with the portrait view while surfing the net and typing papers you will surely feel that it is a larger more comfortable monitor. Now I just hope I dont get any dead pixels :) . Which again the planars are having problems with.

Well if not by next week, by next month there will probably be a better deal but while everyone is stressing out over whether to buy one or not I will be using my seksy little 17" viewsonic. I'll post again with a true testament as I hope everyone else does. But for right now Im happy with this purchase.

I bought 2 of the dell 18.1" UltraSharps for 330 bucks each a couple of months ago. Just had $$ at the time and wow... What a deal. But, I am still amazed that these are soooo good. Games look great as does text and pics. Both came free of any dead pixels that I am aware of. I looked hard. I guess the best way to find them is pull up a while blank word document. Then turn the brighness all the way up and do a full screen of a pictch black image.

It replaced my samsung 900nf.
