I'm really outrageously extremely sick of my old 300W power supply's heinous decibel issues. I no longer desire to have a frigid-running sys. making the room sound like an airport most of the time, but to have complete peace.

So, what power supply/case combos out there will give me adequate cooling for running a Bird @ 1.4 gig but still allow me to meditate effectively? Wasn't there some kind of sound dampening stuff for the case people were using a while back? I've used the same Gateway 2k case for about 6 years so cases are a huge mystery to me. I want the next 6 years to be quiet ones. Thanks for any help.

I bought an Enermax PSU for my last PC that I built. It has two cooling fans in it and they run nearly silent. As for cases. Browse and get the one that fit your needs and/or options that you desire. Sound dampaning is easily accomplished using material like Dynomat, which can be picked up at any car audio store. I think Ive seen some in Best Buy as well.

Actually, sound dampening using Dynomat is not taking much of noise.
I used Dynamat for my tower and I really don't think it's well effective.
Changing your Power supply will reduce noise more.
Enermax PSU will be good. EG365P-VE (FCA) has Manual Fan Speed Adjustable Function. It will help.
And, reduce case fans minimal.

I had an old Enlight case and I found that, by far, the loudest part of my system was the front intake fan. Once I swapped that out, it was nice and quiet.

If you want a good case and still have decent cooling get an Antec SX-1030 or 1040 (300/400 watt PS). I've got the 1030 and really like it.

So perhaps:

CS-A1QX-02
CS-A1QX-06

Would these cases have a shot at coming with a quiet PSU as well? Are all enermax PSU good with noise?

I looked into the Aluminum cases but those are absurdly expensive. I also want something I can take to a LAN party and not be afraid to scratch cause I paid $300 for it!

thanks
