Ok, here are all the specs for the system that I have put together.
-Tyan Trinity K7 mobo w/Athlon750
-Pioneer D-115 16x DVD-Rom
-Mitsumi Cd-RW 4x2x8
-Aureal Vortex1 sound card
-80 mb ram
-Voodoo 3 3500 Tv agp
-3Com EtherlinkXL network card

my problem is that any time I try to play a video or play a video game, the computer will freeze completely. It freezes so that I can't even turn the computer off. That's the main problem. Another problem which I don't know if it's related or not is that my dvd and cd roms do not autorun when i put them in the drive. also i can't run programs off the cd-roms, but i can burn cds and copy information off the cd. These problems are things i have no clue how to fix because i've never built a computer from the ground up before. if anyone has any advice it would be greatly aprreciated.

This is just a guess , but alot of burner software will set your cdroms to autorun Off. Also they will set the read ahead of the cdrom to 0. Which will cause choppy video playback. Try this
1. Set cdrom to full read ahead\
2. make sure dma is unchecked in the settings optin of the cdroms.
just right click on my comp. and look under device manager tab

It could be a heating problem with that furnace you call Voodoo3 3500. Some active cooling by means of a fan may help. Also make sure you have good air circulation within your case. You may also be having power supply issues. Don't forget latest bios and drivers for everything.
