im on a home network with 3 computers, 2 of them are able to connect to the inernet, but i am unable to do so. on the router the lights for my comp are showing up... in windows in the taskbar it says LAN cable is connected, but i cant access the internet. i try going into my router setup page from my comp but i am unable, but from the other 2 comps i can do so. also i try pinging my router in the cmd prompt, but it says host unreachable, and i try doing ipconfig, but all i get is 0.0.0.0. im using onboard LAN, so i thought maybe that was the problem, so i installed a kingston pci ethernet card, disabled my onboard lan, enabled the pci card, says its connected in the taskbar but still unable to acces internet or get into my router settings from my comp.... please running out of ideas, really need internet on my comp.

Did you try resetting the router... power off and then on and then reboot the computer? I am assuming you are using DHCP.

Yeah, how is your TCP/IP setup? If everything is cool there, try another port on the router.

A router is simply a DHCP server in your case, and when you installed the new network card it needed a reboot to detect and assign an IP address to your new network controller. Some routers are better at this than others, and will sometimes do so without resetting the router. Some routers like the one I had from Netgear would drop internet service if more than 2 computers were attached. I had to replace it with a different brand to fix that due to the fact I was using 10 computers on the net continously.

Sometimes when you do a router reset you need to reboot all the client computers as well to detect the newly assigned IP numbers.
